HURRICANE CLIPS - STORM SURVIVAL | THE TT900 POCKET CLIP
http://www.stormsurvival.org/pocket.html
It was widely recognized that for large roof overhangs and widely spaced rafters that toe nails where not up to the job of holding down the roof and sheathing on critical building where maximum protection was needed. This patented metal connector also called the TT900 Pocket Clip allows you to bolt your roof to your wall every four or eight feet at the junction where two sheets of plywood meet along the perimeter of the house. The pocket clip mounted on existing building without securing bolts installed.
HURRICANE CLIPS - STORM SURVIVAL - HISTORY
http://www.stormsurvival.org/history.html
Save lives. Save Home with Hurricane Clips. This company was formed after seeing the destruction from Hurricane Inikii in 1992, and realizing I had almost lost my house after one side of the roof had lifted up and then settled down from Hurricane Iwa back in 1982. After spending several weeks looking into the problem, and reading reports that Hawaii and FEMA had published, I believed that their should be an easier and stronger way of securing the roof to the wall than the products that were on the market...
HURRICANE CLIPS - STORM SURVIVAL - OPINION
http://www.stormsurvival.org/opinion.html
All single walled homes can be made materially stronger by the addition of these modern inventions. Hawaii threw away the opportunity to help homeowners who actually payed into the Hawaii hurricane relief fund to correct the building deficiency, known as a toenail connection. I had gone to the national hurricane conference the previous year, and listen to FEMA representatives expressed their dismay that no states were applying for grants to make homeowners buildings more secure from natural disasters.
HURRICANE CLIPS - STORM SURVIVAL - RECIPE FOR DISASTER
http://www.stormsurvival.org/Recipe.html
A recipe for disaster. What I have learned from Hurricane Katrina is that if adequate preparation hasn't been taken, lives and property will be lost. Imagine if a hurricane destroyed all our shipping-container cranes on Oahu. It happened in Korea several years ago, but luckily they had another port they could use. But here in Hawaii we don't, and it could take over a year to get the ports fully functioning again. One lesson of Hurricane Katrina, though, is that preparedness and response go hand in hand&#...
HURRICANE CLIPS - STORM SURVIVAL | GUSSETS
http://www.stormsurvival.org/tt1200.html
The TT 1200 Gusset. Many of Hawaii's old plantation style homes were destroyed from the last earthquake because of 4x4 posts that were inadequately attached to the house and foundation. What exacerbates the problem on existing buildings is that there are 4 x 8 beams resting on 4 x 4 posts with the same amount of nails holding the post. They are used extensively on Hawaii's uneven terrain with a 4 x 4 post attaches to the floor joist with some posts being 2 feet and others could be 10 feet long. The TT120...
