The Dinner Ladies: She's making a list...
http://thedinnerladies.blogspot.com/2012/06/shes-making-list.html
Thursday, 7 June 2012. She's making a list. It's been a few weeks now since the very lovely Caitriona of www.wholesomeireland.com. Did an amazing guest post for us and its high time I reported back on how her way of thinking has changed the modus operandi of my household. But first, I have to confess that I'd come around to Caitriona's way of thinking way before she guested with us. Back when I first joined 'the Twitter' one of her tweets drew my attention to her own blog post. These are the same people ...

The Dinner Ladies: Special Offer Veggies - Aubergine
http://thedinnerladies.blogspot.com/2014/03/special-offer-veggies-aubergine.html
Tuesday, 25 March 2014. Special Offer Veggies - Aubergine. I do most of my shopping in Lidl. These days. Mostly, I made the choice for economic reasons, however I do like that they are not purely an "own-brand" store but also have some brands that I am quite attached to. I did try out their mayonnaise and ketchup, but I prefer Hellmans and Heinz and it's handy that they are available to me. And it's location is handy for me too, now I can drive. I also really love. Aren't these handsome devils? And you k...

The Dinner Ladies: Chicken Wings
http://thedinnerladies.blogspot.com/2014/06/chicken-wings.html
Sunday, 8 June 2014. I've just noticed that my last post on here was March. That is so rubbish - sorry. Truth be told, I've been stuck in a rut of "same old, same old" dinners, and haven't really been experimenting or feeling the love for a while. Endless Google searches with various permutations of the terms (fixit / Ray Darcy - various spellings / chicken wings / elephant and castle) produced lots of references but no actual recipe. And then I had a brainwave. Email the "Fixit Friday" helpdesk! These a...

The Dinner Ladies: More Vegetables - this is NOT a beige dinner!
http://thedinnerladies.blogspot.com/2012/10/more-vegetables-this-is-not-beige-dinner.html
Friday, 26 October 2012. More Vegetables - this is NOT a beige dinner! Hmm am definitely on a veggie kick at the moment! There's a couple of reasons for this - firstly, there's that recession thing - we blame everything on it, but honestly, we have a five week month in this house this month (who in the hell. I can't tell you how big a deal this is, as I am easily the least. And then our local greengrocer topped up the things I forgot / couldn't get. Nearly there - crumble mix to the rear. 675g mixed root...

The Dinner Ladies: December 2013
http://thedinnerladies.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 10 December 2013. Oh dear - I've been neglecting the lovely blog! Forgive me . what can I say or do, but merely plead Christmas madness and mayhem? Anyhow, this evening I decided to finally. Try this recipe I've been thinking about for a while (I need to build up to these things). I wanted a wintery casserole, and a trawl of the excellently comprehensive BBC Food website. Left me inundated with choice. I finally chose this Rachel Allen recipe. 1½kg/3lb 5oz stewing beef, cut into cubes (as I...

The Dinner Ladies: Tasty TV Dinners
http://thedinnerladies.blogspot.com/2014/01/tv-dinners.html
Tuesday, 28 January 2014. Every other day til they were 15. I cannot hack that level of repetition and so we cook something for ourselves after they are in bed. As a result, it is usually about 8.30pm when we eat, so we tend to eat it on our laps in the sitting room. I've also recently been getting very fed up of our normal midweek dinners. Himself is extremely fed up of stir fries (although I'd never tire of them! And really, if I see either my vegetable crumble. Or my cauliflower cheese. 189; red pepper.

The Dinner Ladies: An Old-fashioned Rice Pudding
http://thedinnerladies.blogspot.com/2013/06/an-old-fashioned-rice-pudding.html
Monday, 24 June 2013. An Old-fashioned Rice Pudding. Rice Pud, with a lovely nutmeg skin. Now I have to admit to a love of an old fashioned pudding, and rice pudding has always. Been my favourite, my mother would often make it as a mid-week dessert, it was great to come in from school and discover that treat waiting for us after dinner. Rice pud recipe ever - honestly, it was even easier to make than the lemon posset. From the BBC Food website). 55g/2oz pudding rice or 120g/4oz arborio/risotto rice.

The Dinner Ladies: Beat the January Blues - Eat MORE Cake!
http://thedinnerladies.blogspot.com/2014/01/beat-january-blues-eat-more-cake.html
Saturday, 25 January 2014. Beat the January Blues - Eat MORE Cake! Wasn't today just the most. I tell you, I am well fed up of January already, and I know I am also over February too, and it hasn't even started yet. Very random) on the internet that uses canned cherries, and I know I have a tin lurking in the back of the cupboard (honestly, the weird food items you accumulate! I felt this would be a good opportunity to finally use the blinking thing. So that's it - screw the "Jan Ban Plan" or whatever it...

The Dinner Ladies: Cake Obsession
http://thedinnerladies.blogspot.com/2012/06/cake-obsession.html
Friday, 15 June 2012. 8220;damp lemon and almond cake” which she suggests you serve with raspberries – it is fabulous. Then came my DinnerLady colleague with her lemon posset (I suggest you try it with raspberries instead of blueberries, devine) which I’ve made 3 times now. So I knew I had to give this a whirl. Anyhow, it turned out brilliantly – if I do say so myself! I've also transcribed it below. Lemon and Raspberry Tray Bake. 350g self raising flour. Zest of 2 lemons. 250ml natural yoghurt (I used o...
