write it / nothing | strings and fretboards
https://stringsandfretboards.wordpress.com/2013/10/22/write-it-nothing
Write it / nothing. I’ve had a post written in my mind since it began, august first. God’s faithfulness. God’s provision. how i needed to do this interview and that application and that was good preparation for something later on. how God worked it out for us in the end. Nearly three months on, and the post remains unwritten. i feel i cannot write it, it has not happened. it has not worked out. it makes no sense. it fits no story. yet i think God is saying… write it. Still i will say. Over a year ago.
thankful / newcastle | strings and fretboards
https://stringsandfretboards.wordpress.com/2014/01/26/thankful-newcastle
Still i will say. Barrelling along the pacific highway, as i’ve done quite often in the last two weeks, or lying in bed unable to sleep, or admittedly sometimes even during church sermons: recently, more than usual, a strange feeling, a sudden sensation that has been largely foreign to me in the past. Which may seem odd, considering how blessed i’ve been. And yet, i am inherently thankless. or rather, i have constructed many things on a foundation of. It’s not quite good enough. Which brings me to thankf...
disappointment / objective | strings and fretboards
https://stringsandfretboards.wordpress.com/2013/08/02/disappointment-objective
There’s a certain heart-fluttering, thought-racing, mist-laden confusion that accompanies disappointment. Any disappointment raises: why, how, who? By definition, disappointment is unexpected. an unpleasant unexpectedness. the reverse of a more joyful, pleasant, equally-unexpected ‘surprise’. Reflecting on disappointment, i’m drawn to that failed expectation. why do i expect? What do i expect? Of whom do i expect? Which returns me to expectation. When it comes to my career, what can or should i expect?

https://stringsandfretboards.wordpress.com/2012/01/01/eighteen-clauses-and-end-post-soppiness
Eighteen, clauses, and end-post soppiness. Typical first-world problem: i fly a lot for someone whose job does not at all involve travel. It is a good thing, therefore, to a) own noise-cancelling headphones (two pairs), and b) curiously, do some of my clearest thinking in the sun-drenched brilliance while flying above the clouds. I tell this sad sorry tale of first-world woe only to segue into a ‘new years’ post which i never intended. It’s what i realised yesterday on my latest flight home. 20...He inks...

It’s a good, a special day =). We celebrate: fingers flying on a piano, amazing dress sense, the occasional misplaced phone, a certain stuffed animal, enjoyment of whiny cat music, the most breathtaking eyes, joy, joy, laughter and more joy, caffeine intolerance, the love of teeth and trails of perfume. Thank you for everything D. Looking forward to the years to come and many more special days😛. Here’s to you =). Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Address never made public).

Winter's Star: September 2014
http://littlecuriosity.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Saturday, September 6, 2014. Dear readers, it is finally time for me to move on. The seasons have been changing rapidly and winter has long departed. You can catch me on my new adventures (read: introverted musings) at https:/ orangejuicecity.wordpress.com. But before that- a trip down memory lane, plus some fun facts you probably didn't know. 1 I have been recording my thoughts for as long as I can remember. 2 This blog first began at the insistence of my high school friends. And then set up a decoy blog.
Winter's Star: May 2014
http://littlecuriosity.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 25, 2014. There they are again- that racing heart, the difficult swallow. my constant companions. It is a cold and grey morning. my bed is very enticing. I put on my fuzzy socks and climb into bed with my laptop. Years ago, i would have squealed with delight- it is a Sunday and I can do whatever I like all day. Yes, and today i want to study all day. Winter's Star: November 2013
http://littlecuriosity.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, November 2, 2013. Yesterday, after my second day of work in rural Australia, I found myself sneaking back in to the hospital doctors' common room to book my flight back home. I don't have internet at home, or a printer. My friend was on call, lying on the couch and watching television. I was a little embarrassed. Day 2 and already I'm booking my flight home for next weekend? The prices had risen, of course, but that didn't deter me either. Posted by Genuinely Superficial xX. Beijing final week ...
Winter's Star: October 2012
http://littlecuriosity.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 28, 2012. Some reflections on the past term:. I still don't know what I want to do in life. After three surgical terms and six years of wanting to be a surgeon, I am tempted by physician training (and lots more study). I would often hear other people asking each other what discipline they wanted to specialise in, but here I am unable to even decide between medicine and surgery. It is important to be passionate about your job. It is important to socialise with your colleagues. Medicine and...
Winter's Star: April 2014
http://littlecuriosity.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 26, 2014. Do what you love. As a first year trainee, I have received a lot of advice- all of it from people more senior (and probably wiser) than me. A lot of it is conflicting- i should be doing more/less procedural work. i should have started studying in july last year vs i should take a break or i'll burn out. i should/shouldn't be reporting on my early shifts. Nb this seems to contribute to the myriad reasons why i am educated so frequently. But apart from occasionally blogging, i hav...
Winter's Star: October 2013
http://littlecuriosity.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, October 30, 2013. The weather has been quite warm and humid recently. a strong reminder that it's that time of year. What's wrong with being surrounded by family, going to end of year parties with old friends, and seeing my boyfriend every week? Or even every two weeks? What's wrong with having internet access? Sometimes I am too adventurous for my own good. or perhaps I am just getting older now, and being out of my comfort zone is not as exciting as it used to be. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
Winter's Star: July 2013
http://littlecuriosity.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 24, 2013. Things I learnt about interview technique. So, I've been told that I'm due another blog post. I should really be working on my rotation case presentation for this coming monday, so today's post will be a little filler that I've been thinking about- the three most important things I've learnt about how to attend a job interview. 3 Wear a suit. Sounds like a no-brainer, but I met a couple of people at my interviews who didn't wear suits. Of course, this is dependent on what jo...
Winter's Star: i used to be normal, like you
http://littlecuriosity.blogspot.com/2014/07/i-used-to-be-normal-like-you.html
Tuesday, July 15, 2014. I used to be normal, like you. I think i'm pretty desensitised to death and dying. it's what happens when you work in a hospital. certifying deaths on the wards during night shift. family meetings with relatives. Most of the time i just switch it off, but there are a few times when death doesn't just pass you in the corridor like a distant acquaintance. sometimes in passing, it stares right at you- through you, for a brief moment. Winter's Star: June 2013
http://littlecuriosity.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, June 25, 2013. In search of new hairstyles. I remember being told once that we sleep eight hours a night as a learned pattern because of the rotation of the earth around the sun. But in some study of people who lived in caves, the natural sleep cycle was found to be six hours. People have their own internal rhythm but conform to the rhythm of the world they inhabit. Somewhat similar principle? 1) I was too lazy to keep it up - it took a lot of time/effort because I'm not an artistic person.
Winter's Star: August 2014
http://littlecuriosity.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 10, 2014. It may seem a little ironic that i am posting about friendships when in fact i have in fact erected a two month fence between myself and anybody outside of my immediate family and boyfriend. But think on it for another few seconds and it becomes so obvious that the importance of friendships, like all things, becomes clearer once you step back. It's like the idiom "you can't see the wood (forest) for the trees". But here's the situation now. i haven't seen any of my friends fo...

Medicine and culture and the strange way we learn. I’ve kept away from most things political or topical here. But this really got to me. it brought together fragments of experiences and feelings and retrospection. i had to put it down, on paper. Medicine really does have a culture problem. Bullying happens. bullying happens a lot. we all know it. we’ve known it since day one stepping into a hospital as a med student, and see it often. what’s worse? We perpetuate it, consciously, subconsciously. Disappoin...
Guitar
Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Poetry Night - Guitar Performance. After our joint performance, Junior asked that I play a song to close the show. I was the last act of the night. I was put on the spot, and didn't have anything prepared. I asked the crowd if anyone knew Spanish. After two or three people raised their hands, I started playing a rendition of Ritchie Valens' "La Bamba." I even sang a little bit! Don't look that up on YouTube though; I made sure I erased any evidence of my singing from the Internet!
