Stromness Parish Church

Wednesday, 29 August 2012. Friday, 3 August 2012. Church outing to Graemsay. Friday, 27 July 2012. From whom no secrets are hid. The priest says “Almighty God….from whom no secrets are hid.”. We rush to the next phrase but now linger there. We are a rich conundrum of secrets,. We weave a pattern of lies in order to be well thought of,. We engage in subterfuge about our truth. We carry old secrets too painful to utter, too shameful to acknowledge, too burdensome to bear,. And then we find that your knowing.

Stromness Parish Church: August 2011

http://www.stromnesskirk.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 31 August 2011. Thanks for the Welcome! Well that was some weekend! Thanks for the unanimous support and all the hospitality. It's looking like we'll be moving up in early October. Personally I can't wait to get started. Wednesday, 17 August 2011. How did it come to this? How did I end up becoming the man I am today? Do you think I wanted to be a tax collector when I was a wee boy at school? Don't get me wrong,. I know I've made my bed. And I lie in it every night. Lonely, afraid,.

Stromness Parish Church: November 2011

http://www.stromnesskirk.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 30 November 2011. Well that was some weekend. The boat journey from hell and then a weekend of mud and hurricanes. I'm glad to be back on Orkney. Here's a few photos of my mates enjoying themselves. Monday, 21 November 2011. Look after your pets! Tuesday, 15 November 2011. When Lord did we ever see you? When Lord did we ever see you hungry and feed you? I could eat a scabby horse! The cupboard is bare. We know where our next meal's coming from. And where it's going. But do we know the cost?

Stromness Library: March 2015

http://stromnesslibrary.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, 28 March 2015. Don't forget to put your clocks forward tonight as we 'spring forward' to lighter evenings and the promise of warmer days to come. On a day of rain and wind we thought it might be good to share the reassuring opening stanza of George Mackay Brown's poem for Robert Rendall, Chorus: ' Soon Spring Will Come':. Soon Spring will come, and then the thrifty crofter. Must yoke an ox, and drive his eager plough. Through the wet mould. the sower will follow after,. Saturday, 7 March 2015.

Stromness Library: Having a yarn

http://stromnesslibrary.blogspot.com/2015/04/having-yarn.html

Saturday, 25 April 2015. We are always delighted to welcome visitors to the Stromness Library, and even more delighted when they come back for a return visit. In the last couple of weeks we've had visits from two former writers in residence at Stromness Library, Jan Natanson, and Nalini Paul. As well as our Ravelry friend. We were rather pleased to be able to show off our library cushions, and Becky even posed for a photo beside the windows which were the inspiration for the design. Author of the month.

Stromness Library: Bookmarks and Bags

http://stromnesslibrary.blogspot.com/2015/02/bookmarks-and-bags.html

Wednesday, 11 February 2015. We were overwhelmed by the entries to our competitions to design a bookmark for the new Stromness Library and a new children's library bag. The quality of the entries gave our judges a very difficult decision to make but we are delighted to be able to announce the winners. Congratulations to Erin Rose Bayliss and Magnus Groundwater, joint winners of the bookmark competition. Thank you to everyone who entered. We can't wait to see the winning designs as bookmarks and bags.

Stromness Library: July 2014

http://stromnesslibrary.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, 12 July 2014. It's been a wonderful week of weather here in Orkney, with visitors and residents alike enjoying sunny strolls along the street in Stromness. We've enjoyed meeting those who have taken a break from the sun to visit the library, both new visitors and familiar faces. It was particularly nice to get chatting to a regular visitor who turns out to be a fellow knitter and Ravelry. Her most recent project, as part of the Women in Science Festival. Involved creating a knitted display.

Stromness Library: Cushions

http://stromnesslibrary.blogspot.com/2015/02/cushions.html

Tuesday, 17 February 2015. We thought you might like to see what the Yap and Yarn group have been working on in preparation for our move to the new Library. We decided it would be nice to find a way to make something for the new building which reminded us of the old library, and came up with the idea of cushions for our lovely new comfy sofas. As you can see, the design is based on the coloured glass windows in the old library. We decided to make 6 cushions and here we are working on the final one! Orkne...
