The Baseball Talmud: March 2009
http://www.baseballtalmud.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
A periodic reaction to Jewish baseball players currently in the major leagues, and an excuse to entice people to buy my new book, The Baseball Talmud! Tuesday, March 3, 2009. Interview with Melanie Greenberg. While most people know Hank Greenberg as the best Jewish hitter in baseball history (and I have him number one overall), his major accomplishment may well be his granddaughter, the writer Melanie Greenberg. Melanie recently joined SNY's blog network with her entry, Struck Out Looking. Afraid to thro...

The Weblog That Derek Built. Tuesday, July 27, 2010. Game 97: Sun, Rain, and Waiting on 600. Back to Sunday's game. Mostly, I'll let the pictures do the talking here:. Phil Hughes, Sunday's starter, is either praying or communing with the rosin bag before throwing his first pitch. Either way, I hope he's asking the powers-that-be that he not turn out like Joba did. Wilson Betemit. Yes, that Wilson Betemit! On the other hand, as we saw a few years back, even with Palmeiro and Thome et al, 500 still matter...

Thursday, March 26, 2009. Harrington Gets T'd Up; Knicks Lose in OT. After leading virtually the entire game last night, the Knicks lost a heartbreaker in overtime to the lowly Clippers. The New York Sports Vent: Jay Cutler to be Traded
http://nysportsvent.blogspot.com/2009/03/jay-cutler-to-be-traded.html
Tuesday, March 31, 2009. Jay Cutler to be Traded. So I was just checking my rumor sites and saw a brand new post taken from the Denver Broncos official website. The subject of the post? Why, Jay Cutler of course. Although this time around, it wasn't about rumors or speculation or text messages or meetings or Bus Cook or Josh McDaniels. This time, it was Broncos CEO Pat Bowlen releasing a statement. Wow Could Jay Cutler be Brett Favre 2.0? And after this saga between he and the Broncos organization, whose...

The Weblog That Derek Built. Monday, July 05, 2010. Game 80: Blue Jays at Yanks. Wow It's been a while since we've spoken (a quarter-season, to be precise) and there's a lot of catching up to do. Unfortunately, this is not the time for a wide-ranging discussion of all things Bronx Bombers (that'll be later in the week). This is the time for.photoblog:. It's not Fourth of July without baseball, the Yankees, and Freddy. Phil the Phenom, coiled to attack. Has he been Joba'd? Even though Peña had scored and ...

The Weblog That Derek Built. Thursday, April 22, 2010. 2010, Game 14: Yankees at A's (postgame). I guess Phil Hughes doesn't really need that changeup, right? Links to this post. Thursday, April 15, 2010. 2010, Game 9: Rangers at Yankees (postgame). But where was the changeup? Wasn't that all the hype coming out of Spring Training, Phil Hughes's new changeup? Now, it takes cojones. To incorporate the changeup in your repertoire mid-career. A misfired breaking pitch can be embarrassing, but a poorly-l...

The Weblog That Derek Built: January 2010
http://weblogthatderekbuilt.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
The Weblog That Derek Built. Friday, January 29, 2010. Sympathy for Bob Gutkowski. Or, Why Business Is Hard. As you may have read, a judge dismissed. Former Madison Square Garden exec Bob Gutkowski's suit alleging that the Yankees owed him money for his alleged role as "the architect of the YES Network." The YES Network, and the local media revenue it brings in, being the economic engine that drives the Yankees' financial empire, you'd think that whoever.architected? If what he claims is true, George Ste...
