Our food security is under thread now! Tuesday, June 19, 2007. When our land was ruled by British, frequently our country faced greater famines. Since our farmers were forced to cultivate cotton, indigo instead of food grains, they starved to death. In 1878 famine, 5 million Indians died. Population was reduced to half in Tirunelveli district. Today our farmers are advised to cultivate soya, jatropha, sweet corn for bio-fuel. So our food security is under thread now.
