The Islands body of work uses primarily opalescent glass which is fused with different sizes of glass pieces to achieve a series of islands in a larger mass of colour. Occasionally iridescent layers of transparent glass are added to create depth and dancing colour between the opaque islands. Metal inclusions play a large role in these glass vessels as they react with the base glasses in the heat and produce halos of colour dependant on the available oxygen during processing.
