Pipe on the Hob | Jigathons

The Earl’s Chair. Trad Tunes Fall 2011 →. Pipe on the Hob. October 6, 2011. This week, Alex taught Patrick Ourseau’s version of Pipe on the Hob which is a completely different tune than the one I know. You might know this version from the Live at Mona’s CD which, not surprisingly, features Patrick on Fiddle and is a also great “source for tunes” CD! Pipe on the Hob (reel) Listen. Pipe on the Hob (Alternate version) Watch. So, who knows how we ended up with different versions out there? Pipe on the Hob.

Session I Class – Fall 2013. Session I Class – Jan 2014 →. How do you play that tune, anyway? January 10, 2014. Interesting variations on how a tune is played. Here’s a quick take on the subject from Martin Hayes. Also, here is a link to a somewhat related article and video. From the Irish Times about The Gloaming, an on-going experiment in music, whose new CD will soon be released (featuring Martin among others). This entry was posted in Uncategorized. New Home For Jigathons. September 16, 2014. Hi All, We’re in the process of moving. New home is http:/ www.jigathons.com. What’s so compelling about the Irish Musical Tradition? April 12, 2014. Having recently witnessed an amazing concert by the Teetotalers (Martin Hayes, Kevin Crawford, John Doyle), I am once again astounded by both the soul and technical prowess of Irish musicians. Granted, these three are at the top of their craft … Continue reading →. January 30, 2014. A Case for Guitar. I’ve n...

Summer Tunes and Songs. How do you play that tune, anyway? Session I Class – Fall 2013. September 4, 2013. Good to have Jim back in class this week. So in his honor, Lark in the Morning. So this week, our tune was Devaney’s Goat. This is a nice straight forward rendition of it (with an appropriate backdrop). Here’s another version. Of the version I originally learned. Which you can listen to here: Brenda Stubbert’s Reel (Am). Also, you might enjoy hearing a set played by Brenda Stubbert. Well, apparently...

Sure, what do I know? When I first started writing my novel, I had no idea what was going to come out of my head. My first thought was “They always say write what you know”. Who ‘they’ are I’m not quite sure, but ‘they’. So, write what I know? Uh oh I’m stupid. I don’t know anything! This will be a very short – and boring – novel. Not going so well so far is it? Write what I know? Well…… oh OK…. I know the pub. I’m probably in the pub more than my house! Sure, what do I know anyway? March 23, 2016. So, w...

Snowed under in Manchester. On Wednesday, June 15, 2011. So, here I am in Manchester. Been doing this intensive course for two weeks now, and it has been just that. I've steamed through a lot of homework. And managed to keep pretty well on top of it. Until today that is. To give an idea of the amount of homework I've been getting and how I cannot afford to waste even one day, this is how behind I have become due to one day of not getting any homework done. What sucks most is that I know for a fact im not...
