My recovery: A short history. My recovery: A short history. When I was 29 I went into rehab, as I was smoking a lot of weed (about £20 a day) and drinking from the moment I got up 'till the moment I passed out. This was based on a mix of CBT, building life skills, and introspective therapy. I cut myself off from my friends - and...

Diary of a Stumbling Alcoholic: AA and I
http://stumblingalcoholic.blogspot.com/p/aa-and-i.html
Diary of a Stumbling Alcoholic. 8220;Very often we are our own worst enemy as we foolishly build stumbling blocks on the path that leads to success and happiness” Louis Binstock. My recovery: A short history. I was reading a criticism of AA, and found it very thought-provoking: how can these amateurs, theses self-confessed broken people help each other, or help me? Why is it an authority, why do I have to follow it steps, or as some might say dogma? Nothing is perfect, and within any group of people you ...

Stumbling about | Exploring the personality in business
Recently, Katie and I went to Yosemite for a wedding. It was my first time, and I can’t believe I haven’t gotten up there before. Places like Yosemite make me realize how insignificant we all are when compared to nature. The morning of the wedding, we hiked up to a waterfall at Hetch Hetchy. It turns out the cave is pretty short, only a few hundred yards at most. So no big deal, but the misleading distance to the light reminded me of the Stockdale Paradox which Jim Collins discusses in his book. Admiral ...

Stumbling Across a Continent
Stumbling Across a Continent. Saturday, August 21, 2010. My New French Sidekick. Anyone who knows me will undoubtedly know that I always have a French sidekick. They may not be thrilled to learn that they're the sidekick and not me, but hey - WWII. First there was Morgane. Ah. lovely Morgane. Morgane La Fey, Morguse La Balayette, ma amie de le scatologie. Unfortunately, continents do take their toll on friendships, but every time I flush a toilet, I think fondly of you. T was I to do? The first place I l...

Stumbling Along the Spectrum
Stumbling Along the Spectrum. Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Respecting People Just Because They Are…. 8220;Did you see that pink letter? My hair dresser asked while washing my hair. Of course, she was talking about the infamous hate mail that was sent to a family of a child with autism in New Castle, Ontario. She continued. “Obviously, whoever mailed it hasn’t heard of people like Temple Grandin or John Elder Robison,“. It was another example of something that I’ve been hearing a lot lately. 8221; “By...

Saturday, August 20, 2016. Still think it's too expensive? The great Tony Horton (creator of P90X and 22 Minute Hard Corps) kills me (in a good way) in this video! Maybe after seeing all the ingredients and how much they would cost on their own you'll start to understand the value of Shakeology! If you still think it's too expensive, I'm really not sure what to tell you! It's healthy, nutritous, tastes great, and breaks down to about $4 a day (less if you sign up for the discount coaching offer! This giv...

Stumbling Along with Technology
Stumbling Along with Technology. Sunday, April 14, 2013. New classroom, but still no smart board. Just switched classroom assignments. Am now teaching grade 2. It's a good switch, not only for more working time, but this class is also easier. I think mainly it's because the previous teacher, who has now retired, knows how to do classroom management. Like seriously, these kids will read quietly for over 20 minutes and more than one of them would do longer if I let them. Tuesday, August 28, 2012. I wish I ...
