Attack of the Antiques | Stuy Heights Limestone
https://stuyhtslimestone.wordpress.com/2012/08/07/attack-of-the-antiques
Attack of the Antiques. Will comes from a family that loves old stuff – antique furniture, family folklore, history, etc. My family doesn’t dislike old stuff per say, and they’re certainly not modern, but old stuff is not in my blood. I prefer a clean aesthetic with a few funky touches. Some of it went into the basement, and some of it was sold. And the upholstered pieces we kept we agreed to have reupholstered. Here is a sampling of the pieces “before”:. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Join 7 other followers.
First Attempt at Pickling | Stuy Heights Limestone
https://stuyhtslimestone.wordpress.com/2012/07/04/first-attempt-at-pickling
First Attempt at Pickling. Last summer we planted cucumbers and they did gangbusters- we had cucumbers everywhere! We were too busy to get our act together to try pickling and canning last summer but I was ready this time around. Growing up, my parents canned and pickled all summer long. They’d can pears from our pear tree, and tomatoes from the garden. I can remember all of the jars in the basement on a metal shelf under the stairs. Since dills are my favorite, I tried this recipe. Wish List | Stuy Heights Limestone
https://stuyhtslimestone.wordpress.com/2012/06/22/wish-list
Sometime over the last year, I started making a wish list for the house. I get so overwhelmed with ideas for projects that it feels like I’ll never get to tackle everything (and I probably won’t). But this way we can at least prioritize (and look back at ideas we once had and abandoned). Buy and install window shades for the parlor and master bedroom. Remove weird exterior chimney and restore original chimney (this needs to be done before this winter). Install electrical outlets in basement. 2 Responses ...
Wildlife | Stuy Heights Limestone
https://stuyhtslimestone.wordpress.com/2012/07/05/wildlife
Home alone with the baby this evening, I got caught up in a PBS documentary about a grisly bear who killed some campers back in the 1960s It was creeping me out a little. Then I saw Muezza dart down the hall. At first I thought she was chasing Rosie, but something about the chase sounded…off. I decided to investigate. In the meantime, I checked back in on the “situation” and heard the squirrel in the kitchen. I shut the baby and cats in the parlor and closed the pocket doors. First Attempt at Pickling.
Reclaimed Wood | Stuy Heights Limestone
https://stuyhtslimestone.wordpress.com/2011/05/08/reclaimed-wood
Hipster Post Title Alert! Our neighbor’s back extension wall faces our yard. I wish it was the same shabby-chic brick that we have on ours, but at some point someone spread concrete over it, probably to avoid repointing/repairing. I’m not about to peel that off of someone else’s property (I did consider it! So instead, I want to hide it. I’ve long been inspired by the Red Hook flower shop Saipua. If only we could hire someone to build a sleek reclaimed wood fence like the walls of the store! June 25, 2012.

A New Way to Garden in the City | SiteName
http://www.stuyheightslimestone.com/2012/06/26/a-new-way-to-garden-in-the-city
Just another WordPress site. A New Way to Garden in the City. Two years ago, I came across this post. A with most home projects, I vacillated obsessively between trying to build them on my own versus taking the easy way out and buying some pre-made. But it’s actually not easy to find “self-watering” window boxes, and the ones I did find were super expensive. So before going whole hog, I finally decided to cheaply DIY it just to see if it actually worked. This house on Stuyvesant Ave was my inspiration:.

The Guest Room: Mysterious People | SiteName
http://www.stuyheightslimestone.com/2012/06/23/the-guest-room-mysterious-people
Just another WordPress site. The Guest Room: Mysterious People. The guest bedroom is currently an antique, milky pink. In keeping with the theme, we hung some old photographs that I found in my father’s basement. These people are definitely related to me, though it’s not totally clear who they are. The first photo is a straight-up mystery. Its kind of sad to think about how someday, no one will recognize us in our old photos. This entry was posted in bedroom. June 23, 2012.
