Successful Learners

Wednesday, 12 March 2008. RME - Paul and Barnabas. This session we've based our RME Christianity focus on the excellent scheme of work from Primary Vision. The activities have proven lively and stimulating for the children and the discussions arising have been far better than those I've normally been able to achieve with classes. Today we looked again at the story of Paul and Barnabas. The aims of the lesson, according to the scheme of work were:. To continue the story of Paul. Monday, 3 March 2008.

Successful Learners: February 2008

http://successfullearners.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 20 February 2008. More active language work. We tired ourselves out today.French is an active language anyway, all that gesticulation and Gallic Shrugging (apologies for the gross generalisations). I digress.we were doing a bit on " body parts. Today so we played (with a little artistic license) "tete, epaule, genou, pied" which scholars will recognise as "head, shoulders, knees and toes [sic].". I never at any point claimed the, ahem, drawing of a person was any good. Monday, 4 February 2008.

Successful Learners: Feedback books

http://successfullearners.blogspot.com/2008/03/feedback-books.html

Monday, 3 March 2008. This is an idea we've been trialling since October last year. In an effort to increase partnership with parents. And to facilitate pupils taking responsibility for their own learning. Each week - on a Friday morning - all pupils in the school consider what they've learned and achieved that week in relation to the learning targets from the week's lessons and "experiences.". I'll post some examples later but comments and thoughts would be appreciated in the meantime.

Successful Learners: The New Poem (for 18 words)

http://successfullearners.blogspot.com/2008/02/new-poem-for-18-words.html

Monday, 4 February 2008. The New Poem (for 18 words). This is a brilliant piece by Roger McGough, available in his book "Sky in the Pie" which we looked at as part of a "Shared Texts" lesson. Here were our "Learning Intentions" for the lesson. We are learning to:. Analyse and compare poetic styles. Investigate and collect examples of wordplay. We’ll know we’ve succeeded if:. We can say something about the relationship of the poem to the title. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My 4 capacities blogs.

Successful Learners: Active learning in languages...

http://successfullearners.blogspot.com/2008/02/active-learning-in-languages.html

Wednesday, 20 February 2008. Active learning in languages. French and English to be precise. Today I attempted to enliven the (potentially) onerous task of looking at verbs and adverbs following a slightly less-than-succesful "Shared Texts" session yesterday. The class then shared what they. They'd seen - a really useful exercise for two reasons: firstly they had the chance to say what they'd seen and maybe get it right but secondly - and perhaps more importantly - if they. A Curriculum for Excellence...evidence?: AiFL

http://aceinaction.blogspot.com/2008/03/aifl.html

A Curriculum for Excellence.evidence? Exploring the collection of "evidence of learning" in the new curriculum. Monday, 17 March 2008. Hmm I've blogged about this before. About it on Friday at the AiFL day in Inverness I thought I'd say some more. For a curriculum which purports to be heading towards Active Learning and for an initiative (AiFL) which puts itself firmly at the heart ("embedded" being the current buzz word) of said curriculum, how is it still possible for a roomful of teachers to be. Or pe...

A Curriculum for Excellence.evidence? Exploring the collection of "evidence of learning" in the new curriculum. Tuesday, 18 March 2008. RME - where does it fit in? I've decided on "responsible citizens" for today's efforts. Though it could just as easily be filed under any of the other three! Who says cross-curricular's hard? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A Curriculum for Excellence...evidence?: January 2008

http://aceinaction.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html

A Curriculum for Excellence.evidence? Exploring the collection of "evidence of learning" in the new curriculum. Thursday, 24 January 2008. I've seen the future. Shaped. I'm liking the look of that very much indeed. We've been approached by a television programme with a view to linking up with them for a question and answer session to help us with our topic work and they'd like to do it as a Skype video linkup. Up until today I'd not even bothered looking at Skype, thinking that GLOW. Click on the link.

Responsible Citizens: December 2007

http://responsible-citizens.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html

Monday, 17 December 2007. How is this going to work? I'm not entirely sure of the best format for this, though I suppose I'll learn as I go along and amend procedures accordingly, in line with the very best principles of formative assessment and A Curriculum for Excellence, I'm sure you'll agree. This will allow me to make evaluative, formative statements or comments and this will - hopefully - enable me to inform my future practice. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). My 4 capacities blogs.

Responsible Citizens: The donkey in the corner...

http://responsible-citizens.blogspot.com/2008/03/donkey-in-corner.html

Tuesday, 18 March 2008. The donkey in the corner. The traditional Easter message is, this year, being done in "tableaux" by my class for the end of term service. The class have broken the story down into 10 main parts:. Which they will turn into "freeze-frames.". And it's not every day you get to say to your class "put your cross down by the donkey in the corner.". Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My 4 capacities blogs. The donkey in the corner.
