Suddenly Mummy: Sort of like becoming a parent . . .
http://www.suddenlymummy.blogspot.com/2013/04/sort-of-like-becoming-parent.html
Sunday, April 14, 2013. Sort of like becoming a parent . . . It's hard for me to write this post because I'm worried that it's going to sound like moaning, when really it isn't. The #WASO theme this week is 'Transitions' and even though I've already linked up a post that wasn't really on that topic, a very small thing that happened (or rather didn't happen! This morning has prompted me to write again, this time on the theme. So OB came to me as a foster child, exactly 2 years ago today, and my family and...
Suddenly Mummy: So, Let's Start Protecting Our Foster Kids Then
http://www.suddenlymummy.blogspot.com/2015/06/so-lets-start-protecting-our-foster.html
Friday, June 12, 2015. So, Let's Start Protecting Our Foster Kids Then. I've written this post over and over in my head since the first episode of 'Protecting Our Foster Kids' aired. I've been through the programme's events, wondered at the bits we weren't shown (I'm sure there was a lot left out! Wished so hard that things had turned out differently for those sisters, and rebutted many of the naive, judgemental and sometimes downright insulting comments I heard and read about those foster carers. So, ma...
Suddenly Mummy: Love That Burns Slow But Fierce
http://www.suddenlymummy.blogspot.com/2014/08/love-that-burns-slow-but-fierce.html
Thursday, August 7, 2014. Love That Burns Slow But Fierce. You don't love these foster children when they arrive. Of course you love them in the abstract in the way that you love kids or babies in general. You have something of a maternal instinct towards them. You care, of course, but there hasn't been that period of delicious anticipation, no scan pictures to pore over, no marvelling over their fluttering kicks deep inside your body. You think about them all the time. You take photos of their futur...

On the road to adoption: Intros Day 11
http://on-the-road-to-adoption.blogspot.com/2013/10/intros-day-11.html
On the road to adoption. Talking about our path towards and beyond adoption . Thursday, 17 October 2013. What a day. Started well with review meeting showing that everyone felt things were going well. Ok T spent most of it amusing the boy but he still contributed. Moving in day was moved forward to Saturday :) So one more day of this strange situation - and as T pointed out coming back this evening we do not drop him back at FCs again. On the road to adoption: Intros Day 8
http://on-the-road-to-adoption.blogspot.com/2013/10/intros-day-7_14.html
On the road to adoption. Talking about our path towards and beyond adoption . Monday, 14 October 2013. This evening T attached a hook and eye to our downstairs cloakroom door as the boy kept going in there. We also have put eyes at top and bottom of stack of drawers in dining room so we can tie handles together as the boy also kept opening them. Otherwise fairly child-proofed house - at least on first visit :). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Intros Day 1 (First sight). View my complete profile.

On the road to adoption. Talking about our path towards and beyond adoption . Saturday, 24 August 2013. Another thing of the list. We spent bits of today wandering around various places looking at buggies, cots/toddler beds and the like. Not getting any of that till we have been officially linked and met foster carer. However we did get something that has been on the list for a while - namely a fireguard. Friday, 23 August 2013. Friday, 9 August 2013. Going back in time…. Saturday, 3 August 2013. View my...

On the road to adoption: Intros Day 10
http://on-the-road-to-adoption.blogspot.com/2013/10/intros-day-10.html
On the road to adoption. Talking about our path towards and beyond adoption . Wednesday, 16 October 2013. Full day today - well from when I picked the boy up at 9.30 till just before bedtime at 18.45. It went well other than FC having to put boy into car seat first thing that is. We came home and played a bit and had Fireman Sam on in background at times. Saw Henry-cat before he scarpered for the day and drew pretty pictures on my iPad. 17 October 2013 at 13:12. http://on-the-road-to-adoption.blogspot.com/2013/10/intros-day-3.html
On the road to adoption. Talking about our path towards and beyond adoption . Wednesday, 9 October 2013. Well we arrived at FCs at 9.30 to find a happy boy calling Mummy.Daddy. After about an hour or so there we took him out. Currently typing this sat in Soft Play place near where we live having had him out for over 4 hrs. Anyway as they got back it started to rain so our planned picnic took place in car instead:). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Intros Day 1 (First sight). View my complete profile.

http://on-the-road-to-adoption.blogspot.com/2013/10/intros-day-9.html
On the road to adoption. Talking about our path towards and beyond adoption . Tuesday, 15 October 2013. How did today go? Tomorrow I get to pick him up from FCs and then we spend the entire day together - dropping him back at bedtime so he should see Daddy twice. Last day of T working for 11 days - not been ideal during Intros but all agreed best for the boy as otherwise respite would have been needed. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). On the road to adoption: Intros Day 7
http://on-the-road-to-adoption.blogspot.com/2013/10/intros-day-7.html
On the road to adoption. Talking about our path towards and beyond adoption . Sunday, 13 October 2013. Much shorter day today as FC had the boy's leaving party today which we did not attend for two reasons - it was his and there was also a security risk involved (not for us directly but still better avoided). The boy on Buzz. It was here the picture above (from Instagram. Clothes in it) as we left and happily sat with that and his drink. After a bit of driving we found a Greggs. On the road to adoption: December 2012
http://on-the-road-to-adoption.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
On the road to adoption. Talking about our path towards and beyond adoption . Sunday, 9 December 2012. Well a positive feedback session last week (30th November) which went really well. Apparently we both came across as enthusiastic and making good use of the contact with N and M. There was nothing at all negative which made us both feel good about things. The point was re-iterated that we would get a letter in the new year telling us how long the wait for a social worker would be. I’m still here! A jour...

Saturday, August 1, 2015. On Friday last week I had my enchantingly-named 'Adoption Viability Assessment Meeting'. It's as though whoever designed the process we have to follow to become a parent through adoption was determined to take the shine off the whole experience, right down to the choice of language! But anyway . . . Why do I want to adopt? And why, particularly, Birdy? And this in the context of a meeting where, if everything doesn't go well, the ASW could write a negative assessment and shut th...
