Friday, 2 January 2015. MUSINGS FROM THE BOWER 57. And so another year begins – what will 2015 hold in store? A smaller pudding this year! So, what has happened since my previous blog? We visited the marina at Christchurch and the quay at Mudeford, and though I managed to take some photographs, I was forced to stay seated most of the time – luckily the weather was good and there were plenty of benches. Friday, 20 December 2013. MUSINGS FROM THE BOWER 51. Small Roddy fairy lovingly passed down from the 1950s. Angels are easy to find – but Christmas fairies? As the trees often had lighted candles clipped to the branches, it must have been very hazardous. This year my fairies are clustered together in a large festive bowl. They look delightful together, and they can gossip about the one who has been chosen to grace the tree. (You think I’m joking? Two 'Vanity Fair' dolls from a local garden centre. Togeth...

Thursday, 14 November 2013. MUSINGS FROM THE BOWER 49. I found a furby! On the winners' podium at Silverstone! Just like an express train, Christmas is rushing towards us, creating a whirlwind of ‘Things To Do’. Get the turkey, bake the cake, decorate the house, put up the Christmas tree and buy the presents. A workshop at Silverstone. With a Harris Hawk at the Raptor Centre, St Ives. Tiger milk feeding at the Isle of Wight Zoo. Feeding the handsome Rajiv at the Isle of Wight Zoo. Next year my husband wi...

Thursday, 12 June 2014. MUSINGS FROM THE BOWER 55. Clematis around the Bower. Well, firstly I am pleased to say that the bower has been looking beautiful, swathed in clematis, honeysuckle and passionflower, and with roses nearby. It’s very tempting to sit inside or nearby, gazing into the pond at the newts, listening to the trickling fountain and being soaked by bathing blackbirds. However, work still has to be done, so I try to ignore its lure! 65279;. Avocet at Cley Marshes. 65279; My daughter and I ...

Tuesday, 28 January 2014. MUSINGS FROM THE BOWER 53. Have you had any snow this winter? Nor have we, though apparently it’s on its way. I like snow, I like the way it hides all the ugliness, transforming litter, cars and wheelie bins under a glistening white blanket. I must admit, though, I am not so keen on going out in it – oh, I’m fine walking through snowy parks or fields, but I don’t like walking on slippery, mushy pavements.
