I love to travel and especially enjoy discovering areas of England that are new to me. It's a constant source of wonder that such a small country can have such diverse landscapes and habitats. My own county of West Sussex. Encompasses rolling chalk downland, floodplains, high weald and heathland. I never tire of exploring around my home county, yet England has so much more to offer, much of which I have yet to visit, while some areas are just distant memories from days gone by. For much of my life I have taken wild flowers and plants for granted without knowing many names, just glad to see familiar faces as the seasons change. My step-by-step journey from birding, through photography to wildlife, has inevitably led me to the flora that provide yet another link in the chain, either directly as host plants for egg-laying insects, as food plants, as sources of nectar and therefore a means of pollination, or as shelter from predators or weather. Birdwatching almost inevitably led to butterfly watching and the challenge of capturing these beautiful creatures on "film" is one of the most frustrating aspects of wildlife photography! Most of these photographs were taken with a 100-400mm lens - not the ideal butterfly equipment but it does allow me to get the shots causing little disturbance to these delicate and flighty creatures.
