Sue's Book Reviews: Gemma Alone (Gemma the Star) by Noel Streatfeild

http://suesbookreviews.blogspot.com/2015/08/gemma-alone-gemma-star-by-noel.html

Gemma Alone (Gemma the Star) by Noel Streatfeild. Sometimes, after reading lengthy or draining fiction, I want to curl up for a couple of hours with one of my childhood favourites. High on the list of authors for such indulgence is Noel Streatfeild. She is best known for her much-loved classic ‘Ballet Shoes’. But my favourite Streatfeild books have always been the ‘Gemma’ series, revolving around the Robinson family and their cousin, the child film star, Gemma. I doubt if many of today’s teens woul...

Sue's Book Reviews: Green Dolphin Country (by Elizabeth Goudge)

http://suesbookreviews.blogspot.com/2015/07/green-dolphin-country-by-elizabeth.html

Green Dolphin Country (by Elizabeth Goudge). When I was a young teenager, my best friend introduced me to Elizabeth Goudge. And I read and enjoyed a couple of her young adult fiction. It was a little mystical, a little more descriptive than I liked, but she told a good story. Some years later I was given the book ‘The Herb of Grace’, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and eventually acquired the two other books in the same trilogy. What is a woman to do, believing herself rejected by the only man she ever loved?

Sue's Book Reviews: Give Up Ironing (by Kathleen McGurl)

http://suesbookreviews.blogspot.com/2015/08/give-up-ironing-by-kathleen-mcgurl.html

Give Up Ironing (by Kathleen McGurl). I hadn’t come across Kathleen McGurl. Before; she’s been writing short stories for women’s magazines for some time, apparently, and recently had her first two novels published. However, I am in possession of this short book because it was recommended on Facebook by a mutual friend, and - more importantly - was available free to download earlier in the year. Still, for those who insist that they don’t have time, there are some good points made. We all have t...Now, al...

Sue's Book Reviews: About

http://suesbookreviews.blogspot.com/p/about.html

My name is Sue, and I'm addicted to reading. At around twelve, having re-read all my books one Summer, my parents introduced me to PG Wodehouse, Gerald Durrell, Agatha Christie, and other lesser known authors who featured on their shelves. 'Jane Eyre' utterly captivated me when I read it for school at the age of 13, and I was delighted at the gift of several Georgette Heyer novels from an aunt, when I was about 15. Then I was introduced to Rosamunde Pilcher, who started my love of late 20th century women...

Sue's Book Reviews: Watch the Wall, my Darling (by Jane Aiken Hodge)

http://suesbookreviews.blogspot.com/2008/12/watch-wall-my-darling-by-jane-aiken.html

Watch the Wall, my Darling (by Jane Aiken Hodge). I do like Jane Aiken Hodg. E's novels, both her historical one and her more contemporary novels set in the mid-20th century. Unfortunately most of her work is out of print these days, although her novels can sometimes be found second-hand. Recommended to anyone who likes light historical novels, if you can find it second-hand or in your library. The voice was a gentlemans. What other book starts with the heroine biting the heros hand?

About the RSDT family website

http://rsdt.org/about_the_rsdt_site.html

This site is a journal of our time in Cyprus, from the first stressful months in late 1997 when we first moved here, until the present date. I began the site, using records from letters I had written and notes I'd kept, back in about 2000 on the Geocities servers. We registered the RSDT domain using the initials of our first names. My name is Sue. I come from Birmingham, in the UK, and my Myers-Briggs type is INFJ. Then worked for some years as a programmer for Severn-Trent water authority. I became a pa...

A new relaxed structure for the first fortnight, then time off. Increased flexibility, with minimal structure. Worries a...

RSDT family newsletter index page

http://www.rsdt.org//newsletters/newsletter-overview.html

There are a lot of pages on this site, with lengthy descriptions of what we did, what we learned, where we went, and so on, since moving to Cyprus. If you would prefer an overview of our life here, you could peruse our newsletters instead, which were sent out to family and friends every Christmas and (in the first couple of years) also in Summer. The links below take you to online copies of them all. More about the family and work in general. Our first grandson, two new kittens, Tim in a flat. Still in t...

Moving to Cyprus

http://www.rsdt.org/moving_cyprus.html

For more details, see the Cyprus government FAQ page. Buying property is possible, although you need written permission to do so; however this is generally granted without problems. Some people buy land and then have a house built to their specificiations; this may be the most inexpensive and satisfying solution, but be prepared for a long wait, since time schedules in Cyprus can be more Middle Eastern than European! We came to Cyprus in October 1997 for two years. and are still here after sixteen.

As you might guess from the nature of Richard's work, we're all committed Christians. We started life as Anglicans, and our 'sending church' in Birmingham is Christchurch, Selly Park. Previously known as St Stephen's Church Centre). Tim has returned there, now he lives in Birmingham again, and we still visit them whenever possible when we're back in the UK. We are also thankful for connections and support from St Stephen's Church, Selly Park. And St Andrews Church, Burgess Hill. I have a web site devoted...

Sue's Books and Things. How To Use This Site. Now Available – A Printed Version of My Book. Saturday, July 26, 2014. The idea for this book is from the life of my 3rd great grandmother. I used only her name and a sad event in her life but the story is fiction. It is mainly the story of Powell O’Kelly, Catherine Langley and Peggy. It follows Powell’s refusal to accept God into his life and the results that refusal brings to the ones he loves the most. Angus Robertson – AU. Amazon – UK. August 1, 2013 By.
