Long Island Camps and Private Schools (LICAPS) was originally established under the name of The Long Island Association of Private Schools and Day Camps. Just recently, the association adopted the shorter current name of LICAPS. This professional association was formed in the early 1950’s at a time when the post war population of Long Island was booming. At the same time, the growth of private schools and camps grew significantly to meet the needs of this frenetic growth spurt.
