Sheffield blogs and community sites. Free wi-fi hotspots in Sheffield. A blog about Sheffield. Sheffield city on the move film. The full version of City on the move, the film that appeared at the start of the Full monty, is now available to watch online. It has been split into four parts, each of which is worth watching if you have time. It still feels like a spoof, with the quaint commentary throwing up several facts about Sheffield in the 1970s:. We are home to the biggest nightclub in Europe. It seems...

Leaving Sheffield – Poetry by Edd Mustill. October 14, 2012. I recently left Sheffield, here’s a barely completed piece I’ve worked on, posted because I’m feeling homesick. The bottle’s half empty. And the glass is half full. The people outside us. If it hadn’t rained so much. That the seven hills became seven seas. Monkey Swallows the Universe,. And you can pour your heart out at around three o’clock. When the two-for-one’s undone the writer’s block. The View from the Afternoon. Everything you want to be.

Gordon's Republic: May 2006

Wednesday, May 31, 2006. Another day, another set of BBC pay rises that seem oddly divorced from reality. I like the BBC, the 'Blue Planet', 'Spooks', 'Doctor Who' and BBC News Online. Fantastic all and one. But after the radio salary bonanza (Chris Moyles 630,000, again why? BTW while we are on Moyles everyone seems to be in shock at how good he is on 'Celebrity X-Factor'. The Sun is even backing him to win. BBC chairman Michael Grade for instance is to get a 70% pay rise or 60,000 a year. You guessed i...

Gordon's Republic: July 2006
http://gordonsrepublic.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 31, 2006. Looks like glossy magazines might be fighting back. Some at least, after an Ashlee Simpson nose job proved a cosmetic alteration too far for Marie Claire readers. Ashlee, the pop kid sister of Jessica 'The Newly Weds' Simpson, appeared on the July cover of Marie Claire magazine talking about how great it was to appreciate one’s body as god intended sans plastic surgery. That would be all well and good, but Ash went and go herself a new nose. As you do. It [Marie Claire] has always ...

Gordon's Republic: August 2006
http://gordonsrepublic.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 31, 2006. I was truly quite saddened to hear about the demise of poor old Airfix. The model plane and toy soldier maker has gone into administration and I'm quite sure that a piece of my childhood has gone with it. Hawker Hurricanes, Lancaster Bombers and my personal favourite the Desert Supermarine Spitfire. They hung from the ceiling and provided night time cover, but no more. Video games hit Airfix hard and sales have declined dramatically over the years. For me it all sums up images ...
