Monday, December 30, 2013. Cassandra - Architecture - II. No single point of failure(SPOF). Schema is flexible and it can be updated in live system. Failure can be candled gracefully with commit log. Replication is simple,Rack and multi data center aware. Cassandra uses a protocol called gossip to discover location and state information about the other nodes in the cluster. Proactive communication is used to share the information between the nodes. Failure detection based on the gossip heartbeat mechanism.

Saturday, December 28, 2013. Cassandra - Architecture - I. Cassandra is a peer-to-peer distributed data store with column oriented database system. Cassandra is developed by using Google Big table and Amazon 's Dynamo distribution model. All writes are automatically partitioned and replicated throughout the cluster. Client read or write requests can go to any node in the cluster. It is shared nothing architecture. Values are structured and indexed (Key value pair with index). Distributed hash table (DHT).

It is avaialble under $ORACLE HOME/rdbms/admin directory. 1 dbms backup restore. Defaults: MAXOPENFILES=8, FILESPERSET=64. Number of Files Read Per Channel Buffer Size. Multiplexing 4 Each buffer = 1MB, total buffer size for channel is up to 16MB. Number of buffers per file will depend on the number of files. Multiplexing 8 Each file will have 4 512KB buffers.
