Sundowner Build: November 2014
http://sundownerbuild.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Friday, 28 November 2014. After hiding from it, procrastinating and being down right scared of it the time had come to pour the keel. I had previously purchased some lead, and bought another couple of hundred kilograms of ingot and about 200kg of lead flashing, dive weights for a total of about 934kgs. And this would be the four or fifth keel melted in it. Also bought some antimony to harden it a little bit, should end up about 3% of the total. Mild panic attack on arrival, although the lead was not gush...
Sundowner Build: July 2014
http://sundownerbuild.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, 31 July 2014. Forward cabin still - lead keel? I have continued slowly with the forward cabin. Next on the agenda was to sand down a few ply joins that were not quite smooth and then epoxy the underside of the front deck (the roof of the forward cabin). Below shows the view looking forward on the starboard side above the overhead storage. A shot showing the forward laminated beam on frame 2 and the forward king plank (in place for a powered chain winch down the track):. This is the first layer,...
Sundowner Build: March 2015
http://sundownerbuild.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Friday, 27 March 2015. Main cabin continues, with a little bit other prep. Progress has continued slowly forward, but I feel like I have started to get a roll on again. I have ordered a fuel tank and some portholes, and have figured out where and what to get for the exhaust system to allow the cockpit to continue once the keel is bolted on. The main cabin storage areas are coming together now I have cut out and sorted all the pieces. First I glued down the bases of the storage areas:. After checking the ...
Sundowner Build: September 2014
http://sundownerbuild.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, 21 September 2014. Interior work and main cabin roof supports. The final touches on the forward cabin are almost complete. I've finished painting, below shows the first coat on the cupboard doors:. And the final coat on the inside:. While I was waiting for the paint to dry I continued in the main cabin, cutting out the access holes through the seat/berth tops. Before shot after clean up:. And after with two coats on:. Below are the first ones in place:. And an overhead shot of the storage. I ...
Sundowner Build: Cockpit progress
http://sundownerbuild.blogspot.com/2015/08/cockpit-progress.html
Thursday, 13 August 2015. With the fuel tank sorted the cockpit is progressing well. The prep work I have done is starting to come into play. First thing to do was to make some holes into the engine bay for the exhaust (top right), fuel intake and return (top left) and an inspection port (bottom). The inspection port is to access the keel bolts just inside. Then it was time for a vacuum and clean up ready to run the exhaust hose. Close up of the supports for the loop:. I also cut a hole for a hatch into ...

Wishingbee: First Weekend at New House
http://wishingbee.blogspot.com/2014/04/first-weekend-at-new-house.html
Wednesday, April 23, 2014. First Weekend at New House. My husband escaped from work on Thursday, and we high-tailed it down to our new home in SW Washington. I can't even begin to tell you how much we love it. When we bought it, we knew it was nice. It had good bones, a little, erm. retro. in some (most) areas, but that it was clean and well loved. We weren't prepared to love it as much as we do. The space is magnificent. I guess most of the shock comes from putting in the offer before seeing this home- ...
Wishingbee: Closing on a New House!
http://wishingbee.blogspot.com/2014/04/closing-on-new-house.html
Thursday, April 10, 2014. Closing on a New House! See this 1976 delight? It's located in a town of 2300 people, somewhere along the Columbia river. And it's our new house. Pending on 4/14/14. All the papers have been signed, we're just waiting until the current residents (who have lived there for 27 years) move out. 25 acres. 3 bedrooms, 2 bath, a dedicated laundry room. AND 576 SQ/FT OF GARAGE. OMG, I can smell the sawdust. THE THINGS I COULD BUILD. I can't even tell you how excited I am. We may have to...

Wishingbee: February 2013
http://wishingbee.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 26, 2013. Chicken Salad Bar - AKA the Greenhouse. I built my three hens a little addition to the chicken run to use up some of the scrap hard wire cloth and lumber I had floating around in the shed. It's a little 3'x3' pen that I can open up for their snacking pleasure. I have two points of access- the closest side in the photo below can be completely removed so I can muck it out / add more grass / whatever. I threw in some grass seed that I had on hand and it's just starting to take off.

Friday, December 28, 2012. Lower Salmon River Squash. Since Boat Building Season is over, it's now Planning Next Year's Garden season. I have the basics in our garden- strawberry and asparagus patches, along with a growing rhubarb and a 2nd year nectarine tree. But I want something more, something I can stash away in the pantry for those long winter days. Like a winter squash. I stumbled upon it at Marishabee's Blog. That's what I want! Posted by Julie V. Wishingbee: August 2012

Monday, August 20, 2012. Happy One Year, Casa Crustante! A Year in Review. Today marks ONE YEAR since moving into our little Casa Crustante. It took us 80 days of renovation to make this little home habitable, along with plenty of tears, a mountain of paperwork, and gallons of alcoholic beverages. It looked like this:. With a shed like this:. An interior like this:. Then we gutted it. Seriously gutted it. But soon, the transformation was complete. Our little foreclosed house evolved. Posted by Julie V.

Saturday, September 29, 2012. I've always been crap at being a lady, much to the disappointment and chagrin of my dear mother. That said, I do have a feminine Achilles heel, and that, my friends, is Essie nail polish. Anyway, I had some scrap okoume from the boat build lying around, along with a cedar 2x2, so I thought I'd make myself a little Essie nail polish shrine. They need to be finished but I'm so pleased with how they turned out. Posted by Julie V. Links to this post. Monday, September 3, 2012.

Wishingbee: June 2014
http://wishingbee.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 27, 2014. New Home, New Coop, New Garden. The new (to us) house is littered with boxes. There are various utensils on the counter, furniture in various states of disassemble. There's a litter box in the closet- no, it doesn't belong there- but we're too afraid to move it lest the cat gets confused. But, we're getting close. Rio, the unfinished sailboat, will be making her journey south in three days. After that, we'll be entirely moved in. Chickens were moved in yesterday. They're adjust...

Monday, September 23, 2013. My Brother is Learning How to Sew. My brother sent me a text message this morning with a simple request:. Do you know anyone with an extra sewing machine? I want to learn to sew to save money.". Well, NO, I don't know anyone with an extra sewing machine. But YES, you should buy one and YES, I'll help! Here's said machine as seen on Amazon. And here I was just going to buy a David Tennant cutout for my Doctor Who party I'm having in November with those points. This one. These w...
