查太极拳在清季乾 隆 嘉 庆 时，还只在河南温县赵堡、陈沟等村落中流传，鲜为人知。 自杨禄禅，武禹襄于道 光 咸 丰 年间将太极拳广为传播后，太极拳始得风糜大众，闻名中外。 从1840年 清道光二十年 到1911年 宣统三年 ，是近代太极拳家创业时期。 鸦片战争 以后，中国逐渐沦落为半封建半殖民地社会，政教散失，患乱丛生，爱国人士亟思图强救国，呼吁 尚武自强，以求强国种 ，清廷军旅多延请民间武师教官兵，提高战斗技术 富商显宦家居外出，恒聘镖师护卫 劳动人民亦多习武，健身御侮 文人雅士雅好武技者日众，用以养性自娱 加以宣扬武侠英烈事迹评话说部的鼓吹，时风所尚，促进了武术运动的极大发展。 杨禄禅名福魁 1799 1872 ，河北永年县南关人。 自幼生活在河南温县陈沟，曾随镖师陈长兴 字云亭1771 1853 学拳。 咸丰二年 1852年 禹襄长兄武澄清得中进士，授职河南舞阳县知县，时太平军已抵长江，禹襄奉母命去舞阳省兄，经太和堂店东介绍，禹襄绕道温县赵堡镇拜访了当地名师陈清平(1795 1868)。 禹襄到舞阳后又从长兄澄清处获得山西王宗岳的 太极拳谱 澄清得于舞阳盐店 王宗岳 太极拳谱 之出处今另有新说。
