Racing Stripes: Very Hot 4-Miler
http://www.elizabethclor.com/2015/06/very-hot-4-miler.html
Sunday, June 14, 2015. Yesterday evening I ran the Potomac River Running Twilight Festival 4-miler. I've run this race twice before- in 2007 and 2008. I thought that 7:45 would be a safe starting pace for the first two miles, and then I would see if I could speed up from there. I figured I would be lucky to run it at pace of anything under 7:45. Given my desire to not pass out or completely bonk, I thought I had a solid plan. Even just standing around doing nothing, it was ridiculously hot, so I had no i...

Racing Stripes: Reston 10 Miler Report: Hilly, Snowy, and Fun!
http://www.elizabethclor.com/2015/03/reston-10-miler-report-hilly-snowy-and.html
Sunday, March 1, 2015. Reston 10 Miler Report: Hilly, Snowy, and Fun! I just posted a post a few hours ago about Greg and my crazy adventure yesterday. In the search for a half marathon that wouldn't be canceled because of the weather. I was tapered and raring to go. So I decided to run the Reston 10 Miler and register on site. I had known about this race yesterday and that had been one of our options, but we really would have preferred a half marathon to a 10-miler. I had planned a slightly longer warmu...

Racing Stripes: Processing it.
http://www.elizabethclor.com/2015/04/processing-it.html
Sunday, April 5, 2015. It's now been one week since the B&A Trail marathon. So I've had time to reflect more on the race. In some ways, I feel like I got "the monkey off my back," but really I know that I had to have gotten rid of the monkey well before this race in order to be relaxed enough to run well. This past week, I have been having the best sleep of my life. I am consistently getting around 8 hours a night. I fall asleep shortly after I get into the bed, and I sleep through the night....Occasiona...

Sunday, May 10, 2015. 5K Extravaganza: Angel Kisses 5K. Now that I'm done with my marathon. And the weather is heating up, I'm focusing on racing shorter distances until the fall. The heat is a real challenge for me, and I've nearly passed out on several occasions after hot races. April: Marathon recovery (easy running). May: Lower mileage, high intensity speed work. June: More challenging speed work. July: Speed work, and begin to add mileage. I ran the BEST Kids 5K. I warmed up for nearly two miles and...

Racing Stripes: August 2015
http://www.elizabethclor.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 1, 2015. This morning I ran the Crime Solvers 5K, a race organized by Capital Area Runners benefiting a local charity. Needless to say, I've never been more prepared for a warm, hilly 5K race. This Crime Solvers 5K course is almost identical to the Fair Oaks Ambulance Chase. I can't even imagine how hard that must be! Greg was there too, of course, and unfortunately he is still. He's a great photographer and cheerleader. I knew this mile would be mainly downhill and the fastest mile of t...

Racing Stripes: UVA Stumblefoot Derby: 10-Year Raciversary
http://www.elizabethclor.com/2015/06/uva-stumblefoot-derby-10-year.html
Sunday, June 7, 2015. UVA Stumblefoot Derby: 10-Year Raciversary. It's my 10-year raciversary! I ran my very first race 10 years ago at my 5-year college reunion. At the 5-year reunion in 2005, my friend noticed a 2-mile race in the program and told me I should do it. I had brought workout clothes with me, so I decided, why not? My friend told me he was running the Lawyers Have Heart 10K the following weekend, and that I. Lawyer's Have Heart, June 2005. Greg (who is now finally able to walk without crutc...

Racing Stripes: Race History
http://www.elizabethclor.com/p/marathons.html
I have been racing since June 2005. Here is an overview of my racing history, with links to the race reports. Injured, 7-week training cycle. 70 degrees and sunny. After 18 marathons, I finally qualified for Boston! I had a lot of mental obstacles to overcome, and also circumstances beyond my control. My next marathon will be Boston 2016. Got stuck in traffic, late to race. Tiny race, no online results. Worst Race. Ever. Totally shocked by this one. PR- nice and cool temps! Extremely hot and humid. I've ...
