BountifulEnergy: The argument from big numbers
http://bountifulenergy.blogspot.com/2014/11/the-argument-from-big-numbers.html
Debunks the arguments of energy decline theorists, peak oil doomers, and others. Argues that energy is abundant. Sunday, November 16, 2014. The argument from big numbers. Energy decline adherents often claim it would be impossible. For our civilization to transition to renewable energy. They have various arguments for that, all of which are wrong. If we wanted to convert the entire world electricity system to wind turbines, it would take 333 gazillion TONNES. Of steel every SECOND. World economy. Alt...

The Leibowitz Society: June 2012
http://leibowitzsociety.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 27, 2012. Last, Turkey is a member of NATO, and NATO has been gradually more involved in the various events related to the "Arab Spring." There have probably been behind-the-scenes talks about using Turkey as a staging area for intervention in Syria if it is decided that armed intervention is necessary and in the interests of NATO. Recon flights and other reconaissance would certainly be a prelude to that. Posted by Leibowitz Society. Thursday, June 21, 2012. Posted by Leibowitz Society.

The Leibowitz Society: Upslope
http://leibowitzsociety.blogspot.com/2013/02/upslope.html
Monday, February 18, 2013. Our society and culture as a whole need to start figuring out the transition. I don't know if it's that somehow we conflate changing the way we live with suggesting there's an end to our future. Do we believe that if we convert our worthless lawns to well-maintained small-scale gardens, that we hate America or something? Could it just be that no one wants to admit the obvious, that the supply is starting to run out and nothing is taking its place? Posted by Leibowitz Society.

The Leibowitz Society: Dual Purpose Living
http://leibowitzsociety.blogspot.com/2013/01/dual-purpose-living.html
Monday, January 14, 2013. Maybe a couple of knick-knack stores or something. Mostly, you'll see real estate signs up all over the place. On a macro-scale, population growth rates are getting ready to tank. People can't afford to feed a large family, or a family at all, in most cases. Some, but we're also seeing this generation increasingly become one that stays with their immediate family, something that was a relatively normal state of affairs for most of human history. The Leibowitz Society: December 2012
http://leibowitzsociety.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 31, 2012. Guns, Guns, Guns. Of course, there are quite a few problems with that idea. Does easy access to guns make it possible for a mentally unstable person to kill easily? Maybe, but plenty of mentally unstable people drive cars (road rage, anyone? Do the actions of a miniscule number of people justify banning items that are safely and lawfully used by the other ninety-nine percent of people who own them? Will all that talk lead somewhere? The Leibowitz Society: Edge of Reality
http://leibowitzsociety.blogspot.com/2013/02/edge-of-reality.html
Monday, February 11, 2013. I won't spend much time commenting on the news, but wanted to mention the manhunt for Christopher Dorner. The collapse of the dollar under unprecedented debt? Another gross failure of technology like Fukushima or the Deepwater Horizon disaster? A state or states declaring independence? Whatever it is, we won't see it coming, and will be not be able to respond any more effectively to it than we have a rogue ex-cop who has decided to go out in a blaze of glory. I would be interes...
