Setting Sail for the South Pacific

Setting Sail for the South Pacific. Sunday, November 10, 2013. Family Time in New Zealand. Panoramic view of Mangawhai Heads from. The deck at Di and Mi's place. We spent the next several days with them at their beautiful home in the magnificent Mangawhai Heads. What a strange word, "Mangawhai." Maori tribes are the indigenous peoples of New Zealand, and we later found out that the word Mangawhai (pronounced: man-ga-fy) means "Stream of the Stingray" in the Maori Language. Front row: Oscar and Danilo.

Setting Sail for the South Pacific: Seas the Day

http://www.supsictravelsouthpacific.blogspot.com/2013/11/seas-day.html

Setting Sail for the South Pacific. Thursday, November 7, 2013. Franks' winning golfing form! The ship offered many different sporting contests daily throughout the cruise. Here is Frank lobbing a golf ball across the swimming pool. The goal was to hit a dolphin sculpture at the other end, not an easy thing to do. But he did it - and he won a free drink too! Frank drinks his winnings! Frank drinks his winnings! Pitching balls for the win. 65279;. Hula Classes were held on the Lido Deck,. We often take ...

Setting Sail for the South Pacific: We're in Sydney, mates!

http://www.supsictravelsouthpacific.blogspot.com/2013/11/were-in-sydney-mates.html

Setting Sail for the South Pacific. Saturday, November 9, 2013. We're in Sydney, mates! The iconic Sydney Opera House. Time to leave our temporary home at sea. Farewell to our ship the Volendam and hello to Sydney, Australia! Our ship sailed right into Sydney Harbor and docked alongside the Opera House. What a thrilling entrance! Great view from 42 floors up! Fabulous view of downtown Sydney from "The Cross". The real Kings Cross - the underbelly of Sydney. Colonial brick buildings in The Rocks. The Rock...

Setting Sail for the South Pacific: Bonjour, Nouméa!

http://www.supsictravelsouthpacific.blogspot.com/2013/11/bonjour-noumea.html

Setting Sail for the South Pacific. Wednesday, November 6, 2013. Our second stop in New Caledonia occurred the following day, and it was on the island of Grand Terre, in the capital city (and biggest city in the South Pacific): Nouméa. Is known as the “Paris of the Pacific” which may be a bit of a reach. Other than the fact that they speak almost exclusively French here, Nouméa. Our rainy tour weather. Unfortunately, our day started off with clouds and rain. Cannon at Ouen Toro. Our second place of stopp...

Setting Sail for the South Pacific: October 2013

Setting Sail for the South Pacific. Tuesday, October 22, 2013. Wild welcome in Suva, Fiji! Bula is an all-purpose Fijian word, much like Aloha or Namaste, used to express hello, goodbye, and cheers - it literally means life or health. Everywhere you go on Fiji, “bulas” fill the air when you encounter one of the local denizens! Luckily, we had already arranged a tour and eventually found our tour guide whose name was Mala. Lush villlage compound near Suva, Fiji. Almost immediately, we were escorted down t...

Setting Sail for the South Pacific: September 2013

http://www.supsictravelsouthpacific.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Setting Sail for the South Pacific. Saturday, September 28, 2013. Flight over the Grand Canyon. Our adventure began with a fairly mundane flight from Newark to Los Angeles. To be honest, domestic travel makes us long for an international flight! At least when we fly internationally, we don’t have to pay $25 for each checked bag, and the food is included. On international carriers, we even get free wine! This flight did have one incredible highlight: we flew right over the Grand Canyon. And even had a sup...

Geneva, Greece, and Gay Paree

Geneva, Greece, and Gay Paree. Tuesday, June 16, 2015. Love the Greeks - OPAH! The lure of the lower euro was too much for us, so we decided to head back to some of our European favorites. But first, we will begin the trip with a new place: Geneva, Switzerland. Here is the trip in a nutshell:. Geneva, Switzerland - A chance to get an overview of the city (and eat some famous Swiss chocolate). Corfu, Greece - We love the Greek Islands, and many folks think Corfu is the most beautiful of them all.

Icy Iceland

Friday, April 8, 2016. Here are some interesting facts that we learned about the Icelandic inhabitants and their way of life. During our stay here. Energy is one of the cheapest commodities due to the tremendous amount of geothermal activity and hydro power present everywhere. Actually, the energy is “free” since molten magma is so close to the surface. The citizens only pay a small amount to cover the infrastructure and maintenance of equipment. Geothermal Activity on Iceland. Elves roam around Iceland.

Incredible India

Tuesday, December 13, 2011. Delhi – Back to Delhi and Back to the USA. Our friend Helene welcomes us back to. Amarya Haveli (hotel) in Delhi. Our flight leaving Jodhpur for Delhi was delayed for over an hour. Of course, we had no idea what was going on since the announcements were unintelligible and there was no English signage of any kind in the airport. The flight was a dream when it finally arrived; a flashy new turbo prop high wing ATR-72/500 took us from Jodhpur to Delhi in little more than an hour.

Springtime in Paris and the Piemonte

Springtime in Paris and the Piemonte. Friday, May 3, 2013. Just a few more descriptions of life in this wonderful, unpredictable country:. Food (cooked and RAW! Grating Pecorino cheese over some "plin". The food in the Piedmont is almost as famous as the wine. This is the home of the Slow Food movement, a reaction to fast food that emphasizes fresh ingredients based on what is in season. The pasta is phenomenal! And a specialty called “tajarin,” a handmade, hand-cut pasta made from eggs. Interestingly, a...

New England and Canada Cruise

New England and Canada Cruise. Thursday, November 10, 2016. Life on the Caribbean Princess. For those of you interested in cruising, we wanted to provide a quick review of our cruise ship experience. This was a very port-intensive cruise, so we spent relatively little time on board, but to be honest, the Caribbean Princess was a mixed experience. Excellent customer service from the Ship's Front Desk – went above and beyond to accommodate us. Best buffet food of any ship we have ever sailed on. The Entert...

Cruising the Caribbean and the Panama Canal

Cruising the Caribbean and the Panama Canal. Monday, January 19, 2015. Life on The Coral Princess. We loved cruisin' with Charlie and Mary. We’ve talked before about the pleasures of being at sea, but this trip was special because it was the first time we cruised with another couple. We had a great time sharing the fun with Charlie and Mary! This really was a bon. Our pictures tell the story best:. Some stats about our ship The Coral Princess. Paris, Rome & Puglia

Paris, Rome and Puglia. Saturday, May 3, 2014. 36 Hours in Paris. The Sorbonne University of Paris. We returned our rental car to the Bari Airport in southeast Italy, and flew Easyjet back to Paris, where we would ready ourselves for the trip back to America. This time we stayed on the Left Bank in a hotel near the Luxembourg Gardens and the Sorbonne University. It rained when we arrived, but other than a few very brief showers, the weather for our short visit was perfect: sixties and sunny. For somethin...

San Juan, Puerto Rico and Caribbean Cruise

San Juan, Puerto Rico and Caribbean Cruise. Tuesday, December 6, 2016. Dominica, Barbados, and Grenada. Entering the country of Dominica. The island of Dominica looks very retro-authentic, a lot like all of the Caribbean islands probably looked years ago. Colorful town of Roseau. Our ship docked next to a simple platform, and we walked down a narrow pier directly into the colorful laidback city of Roseau. The vendors of Dominica. One of the faces of Dominica. Derrick teaches us all about fine chocolate.

Cruising Southeast Asia with a Side Trip to Taipei. Sunday, April 19, 2015. Taiwan, the Other China. Taiwanese beer was soooo good! On the streets of Taipei (notice the 7-Eleven! That’s our capitalism at work, we thought, making inroads in countries that have opened their doors and embraced western commerce! Water lilies and azaleas adorn ancient fountain. Scintillating Sicily and Mighty Malta

Scintillating Sicily and Mighty Malta. Sunday, April 17, 2011. Malta, Gozo, and Milan. 65279;. Hydrofoil from Sicily to Malta. 65279; We took a rather large catamaran hydrofoil from Sicily to Malta, arriving in the capital city of Valletta in about three hours. Valletta is considered to have one of Europe’s finest cityscapes, and entering the Grand Harbor by boat offered an impressive view of this very hilly city of stone that is surrounded by massive fortifications. As a result of their bravery, t...
