My surf fishing experience with the two-handed spey rod. Monday, May 16, 2011. Sandy Hook 2011 (Ⅱ). I went to Sandy Hook again last Saturday and fished the receding tide from early morning till noon. I tried Scientific Angler 750 grain fast sinking shooting head line for my 13-weight spey rod. The line went well with the rod. It becomes my fastest sinking system. I fished like wet fly fishing in the tidal current to make the fly swing like other fly fishermen in Sandy Hook Point. I caught one school bass.

When I got there, a plug fisherman had already taken the fishing spot where I had many. I fished a little away from him because I tried not to bother him with my long rod and line. He caught 5 6 striped bass one after the other. Fishes were in the Bay! But they were not on my side. I got nothing. Unfortunately nothing happened to anybody.

先週はEastも Westも共に水が少なかったが今日はWest Branchが三倍かそれ以上に増水していた。さて最上流の橋に行ったら例に依ってボルボに乗って来る伯父さんが橋の下に陣取っていた。彼はかれこれ4年は殆んど毎週末このポイントで釣りをしているのではないだろうか。そこはEastでは最も釣れる場所の一つなので早朝この場所を確保したら、もうだれにも渡さないと言う様な気迫で一日中釣りをしている、変人の部類に入れてよい人だ。数時間も釣ってようやく2～3匹釣ることができた。釣れたのは大抵フライを変えた直後だった。新しいフライで気をそそると言う様な、ハッチ・ザ・マッチとは明らかに違う、なんと言えば良いのか、こんな釣りもよく有る。土曜は久し振りにCroton River へ行って来た。 Crotonから、もう1時間程走ったコネチカットのHousatonic River に先ず行ってみたのだが、前日に土砂降りの雷雨でもあったのか、殆んど濁流だった。釣りに成らないのでCrotonへ戻って来た。 Going to the water. 日曜日にEast Branch の例のプールでミッジングを楽しむことが出来た。ライズしているのは3～4匹のブラウンで、大きさは8～10インチ位。食べている虫は、目を凝らしても見ることが出来ないので、まずグリフィス・ナットを使ってみた。これは反応が悪かったので、次はCDCのミッジ・エマージャーにしたら直ぐに釣れた。多く、うるさかった。鱒も餌を横取りするサンフィッシュに、時たま突っかかって行き、おっぱらっていた。この日は気温が90°F以上ある暑い日だったが、水に入って釣りをしている分には快適だった。 Going to the water. ニュ-ヨーク在住の熟年フライフィシャー。ヤンキーズのファンだがレッドソックス戦では、松坂のいる個性豊かで魅力的なレッドソックスもついつい応援してしまい複雑だ。 My another blog for saltwater fly fishing (English). Farmington川（Ⅲ）. 私は先回A氏が大物をバラした流れ込みで、それを釣ってやろうとウエットやニンフを使ってみたが全然反応なし。目の前で小型の魚が跳ねているのだが、それも食いにこない。大きいのを釣ってやろうと大きなフライを使っているからだろうか。しょうが無いのでパラシュートフライに替えたが反応が無い。どうも水の上を飛び回っているのは小さなカディスの様なのでエルクウイングカディスを投げてみたら魚がスッと出てきたが針り掛かりはしなかった。最近、魚がどの程度にフライを選択しているのかについて、かなりいい加減じゃないかと思い始めていたが、水流の比較的速いこの場所でもパラシュートとエルクウイングフライはやはり大違いだった。夕方、使っていた6番タックルを5番に替えてプールに下って釣り始め、結局CDCのエマージャーやダンで5～6匹以上を釣った。流れている虫は20番以下の小さなカゲロウが多い。14インチのブラウンが釣れたので試しにストマックポンプで調べてみると、それらしき虫は入っていなかった。もっとも胃の内容物を全部吸い取ったかは判らない。とは言うものの私がCDCに注意深く念入りにフロータントを付けて&...

週末の土曜は独立記念日の祝日でもあった。以前この日にFarmingtonへ行き、帰りの道中で通過する町々の打ち上げる花火を見ながら帰って来たことがある。今年もそんな積りで出掛けた。前日まで増水していた影響か、どのプールもライズは見られず、うろちょろするばかりであった。最後に行った下流のChurchプールで流心の中に見つけたライズを釣り、ようやくちびトラウトを掛けた。wifeもそんなライズを狙い、何故か綺麗なループのキャスティングを繰り返していたが釣れなかった。後で聞いたらバックにブッシュと木の技があったので、それに気を付けてフォルスキャストをしていたとのこと、これがキャスッティングの基本である1時ストップをしていたことに成り、本人も驚く綺麗なループで軽やかにラインを飛ばせていたのだった。私はwifeのキャスティングが今一だったけれども釣れればいいじゃないと放っといたのだが（実際、釣れていた。）、wifeは自力でキャスティングの骨を習得したわけだ。 Going to the water. ニューヨーク北部のSalmon Riverへの二度の釣行は、一回目は10月7～8日丸二日間の釣りで二人ともランディングは出来なかったが、二回目の10月16～17日の釣りで、私はキングのオスを三匹上げwifeはコーホーサーモンを一匹上げた。今年は2回目の釣りで重いおもりを付けてルアーの様に投げるキャスチィングで、ロッドを倒してスイングを終わるのではなく、成るべく竿を立てたままにした方が、出て行くラインがロッドやリールに絡み付く事が少ないと気が付いたのだけれど、これは、たしか去年かもっと前に経験したはずだと更に気付いた。こんな風な繰り返えしを毎年している訳だ。その男は私が引き下がらないので石をドボン、ドボンと何回か私の前に投げ込む嫌がらせをした後上がって行った。呆れた野郎だ。まあ、これは抗し難い流行のようで2ハンドの釣人はまだまだ増えそうだ。 Going to the water. ニュ-ヨーク在住の熟年フライフィシャー。ヤンキーズのファンだがレッドソックス戦では、松坂のいる個性豊かで魅力的なレッドソックスもついつい応援してしまい複雑だ。 Idaho 釣りの旅.

Farmington川（Ⅳ）. またこの日中のスローな時間帯に日本では一般的と聞く「ルースニング」というのを早瀬で試してみたりした。今年一番大きな魚はこれで釣った。釣りのピークは夕暮れのフライが見えなく成ってしまう前の10分から15分で、日中は低水位の為にわずかに残った隠れ家と言える深場から大型の魚が出て来て餌を漁り始める時だ。白い大きな見えやすいフライで14～15インチを幾つか釣った。足許を20インチはありそうな黄色い魚のシルエットがひらひら泳ぐのを度々見たが、これはまだ釣れていない。これをどう釣ろうか。わくわくする課題が出来た。まず無数の羽蟻が川全体を被う様に流れていた事だ。サイズや色の違う何ん種類もの羽蟻なので、この日は羽蟻たちにとって何か特別の条件を持っている日なんだろうけど私にはちょっと判らなかった。流下する蟻があまりに多いのでフライなど食ってくれなかった。もっともwifeは14インチのサーモンを1匹釣り上げた。私が釣りあぐねている時にwifeがパッと釣ってしまう様な事が最近多くなった。 Going to the water. The flat foil rides well on takeoff and down the line but doesn't handle the intense power in the tube, there's too much lifting area that remains submerged. I'm making a split level foil so that as the foil speeds up, it automatically rises and reduces its lifting area so it can handle greater power.
