Of Fourth Gear Flyer. A lack of quality mats on the market and the realization among the world's best mat riders that more pliable mats performed better led to the development of the heat welded, all nylon surf mat. The original 4th Gear Flyer, created in California 1984, was a complete redesign of the traditional 4 pontoon surf mat. It sported three large pontoons, with a stabilizing I-beam in each of the main sections. And the results were breathtaking!

Dis•place•men•tia. Update From Florian . I finally had another go out on the pig this past week. 2' to 4' south swell at C Street, fairly clean and lined up. I rode it with the fin pictured. Unfortunately, I didn't get too many waves as I had to contend with a bunch of overzealous longboarders in their twenties, but I managed to snag a few. Aug 11, 2015. At Fortunes Rocks, Biddeford, Maine, we had 4' waves yesterday. I started surfing here in 1964. This year I turn 64. I have bad shoulder due to 20 years of using a nail gun.carpenters take note.can't paddle. First day.no flippers, small waves.didn't work. Second day , got my churchills, small waves.not very exciting. A couple on the beach complimented me on my rides.they saw me preparing to inflate the mat.they thought it was a yoga mat!
