The journey to find hypo-allergenic happiness. Monday, January 25, 2010. Beef Stew with Hazelnut Butter and Dates. This was a great recipe adapted from a similar recipe I found at http:/ find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn? It was terrific after cooking in the crockpot and even better as leftovers the next day! Beef Stew with Hazelnut Butter and Dates (adapted from Cooking Light). 2/3 cup coarsely chopped hazelnuts, toasted. 1 1/2 pounds lean beef stew meat, cubed. 2 1/2 cups chopped onion. Add h...

Surprised by Flavor: Eating Out

http://surprisedbyflavor.blogspot.com/2010/01/eating-out.html

The journey to find hypo-allergenic happiness. Friday, January 15, 2010. So eating out is a big problem when you are on such a restricted diet. This week is really busy for us with my husband's cousin getting married and having family in town. I'm playing the piano for the wedding and my husband is an usher so that meant rehearsal dinner. We didn't get a chance to eat before the dinner so that meant we went to Tutta Bella Pizzeria (good but ugh! Will post more on that experience later.

Surprised by Flavor: Resisting Temptation

http://surprisedbyflavor.blogspot.com/2010/01/resisting-temptation.html

The journey to find hypo-allergenic happiness. Monday, January 18, 2010. There are only a few things I can actually eat there that don't have aforementioned allergic items; however, I did enjoy a berry scone, berry tea biscuit, and quinoa bread. I decided I'm not allergic to garbanzo bean flour because that actually didn't bother me at all. I did buy a carrot muffin but after one bite realized that it had coconut in it which wreaked havoc with my stomach. Alas. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

http://surprisedbyflavor.blogspot.com/2010/01/s.html

The journey to find hypo-allergenic happiness. Thursday, January 21, 2010. Stir-fried Noodles with Eggplant and Basil. Stir-fried noodles with eggplant and basil. Serves 4 (from Everyday Food). 8 ounces lo mein noodles (I used Trader Joes brown rice spaghetti). 2 Tbsps soy sauce (wheat free tamari). 1 Tbsp toasted sesame oil. 1 tsp light brown sugar (I used agave). 4 tsps vegetable oil (I used macadamia nut oil-olive would be fine). 5 scallions, white and green parts separated and thinly sliced.

Surprised by Flavor: February 2010

http://surprisedbyflavor.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

The journey to find hypo-allergenic happiness. Monday, February 15, 2010. Roast Sweet Potato, Garlic, and Turkey Fettucini. My friend Amy introduced me to Donna Hay- an Australian chef who has a beautiful magazine (and website) full of scrumptious looking recipes. You can read more about her at http:/ www.donnahay.com/. I found and tried the following recipe which I have modified for my dietary needs. It was fantastic! Roast sweet potato, garlic and chicken (turkey) fettuccine. 2 tablespoons olive oil.

Kristen's Blog: January 2013

http://kknouff.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

One Year, 2 Months and 6 Days Later. My dad died a little over a year ago and, far and away, it was the most difficult thing I've ever navigated. I feel blessed that my first major tragedy arrived at 30 years old. For so many, it happens so often and so early. But, that's for another blog. I still miss the heck outta my dad. He was so great.he just really was a great man, father, friend, mentor, tax adviser math tutor, softball coach, etc. Faith- help me get through things right now, too. Yup, I like...

Kristen's Blog: The first of many posts in 2013....and other goals I might not achieve

http://kknouff.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-first-of-many-posts-in-2013and.html

The first of many posts in 2013.and other goals I might not achieve. Well, my dear aunt requested that I increase my blogs to something better than 2 or 3/year, which didn't seem too tall an order to fill.and, I like my aunt a lot. So here we are. At the beginning of each year, I think we all, as individuals, tend to be a bit nostalgic, a bit hopeful, a bit self-loathing and a bit arrogant. Otherwise, why would such a large percentage of us think that this. So that's where I'll start. 9 I found ways to i...

Joe, of course, was wonderful. Hugs, offers of hot tea and the space and freedom to know that crying is perfectly healthy. My faith be stronger than ever? People sometimes identify moments of struggle in their life as times when they felt God was distant, and I don't want to disclaim their real emotions or anything, but I might suggest that the experience of a person's death ought to cause us to grow stronger in our faith, and here's why:. Effect on Jesus' death on the cross, and zero. Now, I want to bac...

My sister and brother-in-law's anniversary. But, Dad isn't here. I have no cake, I will save a few bucks on gifts this year, and I don't feel especially merry. I miss Dad. That will not be a surprise to anyone. I don't cry every day now, but there are still moments.Dad was concerned about leaving a legacy, but his concern was totally unfounded.he is in so much of what I do, and I know that the same is true for my sister and mother, among others. What they could manage) to honor and serve and welcome me.

Kristen's Blog: You might disagree, and that's okay...

http://kknouff.blogspot.com/2013/01/you-might-disagree-and-thats-okay.html

You might disagree, and that's okay. Things that are true:. 1 Christians are hypocrites; the ones who say they're not. Hypocrites might be the most wrong. 2 Christians are not goody-goodies; the ones who say that they are. Probably aren't getting things quite right. 3 Christians are no better- or worse- than anyone else. 4 Christians are not different from anyone else. 5 Christians don't have exclusive rights to redemptive grace. 6 You don't have to be a Christian to be a "good person". Two Shades of Pink.

Why I Love Ash Wednesday. Along with Maundy Thursday and Easter Sunday, Ash Wednesday sits at the top of my list of most-loved days on the Christian calendar. Yes, it's above Christmas/Christmas Eve. And Pentecost, Epiphany, etc. I love Ash Wednesday; I always have. I really love the entire Lenten season, actually. And here's why:. Is the whole point of our faith. Kristen's Blog: The Weight is Over, Pt. 3

http://kknouff.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-weight-is-over-pt-3.html

The Weight is Over, Pt. 3. 1 GI Joe is right: Knowing is. The assumptions that I made about foods before actually taking the time to learn about them were only partly supported by actual data. For example, yes, it is. True that fast food is incredibly unhealthy. So, I was right about that. But, for reasons unknown, I somehow had it in my mind that a tortilla, being so thin, must not be too. Were way off base, too. 2 Being informed about the things that we eat is wildly important. 3 It's not pizza's fault.

Bigger than the Boogeyman. As he was too busy running and attempting one-armed push-ups. Still I'm glad we've moved on from that. And we have a cd with the Rocky soundtrack in the car, just in case the need arises within him again). You know, that's the thing about Veggie Tales (not unlike the Muppet Show, I suppose): it is marketed as a child's show, and is intended for very young viewers, but the messages come through in a way that speaks loudly and clearly- perhaps, even, most. Does God like cancer?

http://kknouff.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Why should we do that? Do we think that pretending that death is not a reality might make it be so? Are we living lives deserving of the high praise that we hope to receive? Do we strive to be the person who we hope that people remember us as being? Or do we just sort of hope that the negative stuff will be brushed aside, and that only the positive stuff will be mentioned in honoring our memory? Do we hope that we're doing just enough? Well, honestly, we need to step back even further: how do. And, if Go...

Surprised by Change

Thursday, December 16, 2010. In Romans 12:2, God tells us to be faithful in prayer - "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer.". In Ephesians 6:18, the Apostle Paul encourages the Ephesians to pray in every situation/cirumstance - "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. with this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for the Lord's people.". 1 Thessalonians 5:17 says that we should, "Pray continually.". Bottom Line: God desires us t...

Surprised by Dutch society and politics...?

Surprised by Dutch society and politics? The English version of an otherwise Dutch weblog. By a Dutch guy, that looks with surprise at his own country, politics and economics. That same guy enjoys writing about it as if he where the old Johan de Witt himself. ;-). Dutch government deeply involved in illusionary budgets and politics (just like the bankers). Where are we now? Illusionary cuts and budget. We should also note that significant part of the budget cuts of this government only exist on paper&#46...
