Surviving Athens

Arguably Greece's most interesting blog about living and surviving in Athens, Greece. Thursday, June 14, 2012. Remembering Greece's multicultural heritage. My last post was a bit depressing I must admit. But as I have said before. Greece is an addict and has to hit rock bottom so it can admit it has a problem. Once it has admitted its problem, then and only then can it begin to tackle the problems that brought it to this juncture. If we have come to the world then we have to live. Surviving Athens: January 2009

http://survivingathens.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Arguably Greece's most interesting blog about living and surviving in Athens, Greece. Friday, January 9, 2009. Athens - contrasts upon contrasts. Oh the joys of living in Athens. I was late paying my electricity bill so the other day, of i went to one of their main offices to pay it off. Arriving there at 10 to 8 i was a bit annoyed to see that there was already a small line forming outside. As i got closer i heard a lot of grumblings. What's going on" i timidly asked "They haven't got any power". This m...

Arguably Greece's most interesting blog about living and surviving in Athens, Greece. Thursday, May 31, 2012. To be honest, its been hard living in Athens these past few years, and in the past few months a sense of hopelessness has set in. Two years ago when i was unemployed i had more hope - because i thought that things would change - they had to if Greece was going to get back onto its feet. But no-one wanted that, no-one in power that is. Now, things have changed. Posted by Vassili - Mike. Read more ...

Arguably Greece's most interesting blog about living and surviving in Athens, Greece. Thursday, March 4, 2010. Greece vs the Civil service - Let there be blood. For the first time in its modern history the Greek people have won its first fight against the Greek civil service. While a lot - a whole lot - a gajillion more, needs to be done, the significance of this event shouldn't be underestimated. This is only because they can see how the foreign media is reporting it. I can at least hope that Greece wil...

Paul and Nicole move to Greece: Yes, You Can See Her Fanny

http://weareingreece.blogspot.com/2009/05/yes-you-can-see-her-fanny.html

Paul and Nicole move to Greece. The story of our relocation from Glasgow, Scotland to Kalymnos, Greece. Tuesday, May 19, 2009. Yes, You Can See Her Fanny. Round the corner from us is Tzinadiko which more or less means "Your jeans" but could be mistaken as meaning "her fanny". For in the window, at just the right height for the slavering attention of the local nine-year old boys, is a picture lady's pussy. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Paul and Nicole move to Greece. The story of our relocation from Glasgow, Scotland to Kalymnos, Greece. Saturday, March 28, 2009. We found this abandoned school on the East Side of the valley. Apparently the story is that a local woman left some money to build a school. However, sensing an easy buck, the builders did a cheap job and built the school with leftover cement and bits of cotton wool, pocketing the cash they saved on materials. It looks like they had to leave in a hurry. View my complete profile.

Economic Insight Greece: Political sports in Greece

http://economicinsightgreece.blogspot.com/2012/06/political-sports-in-greece.html

Friday, June 15, 2012. Political sports in Greece. And that is what it is in Greece - a sport. Here in Greece, aside from the Olympic torch ceremony, the Olympics is forgotten. At the moment of course yes people here are watching the EURO championship. But its only since Greece won in 2004 that Greeks paid the same interest in their national team that they would to their local soccer teams like Olympiakos or AEK. Switch over to France's TV5 and watch their rugby, otherwise forget it. And just like in spo...

Economic Insight Greece: Papademos rejected as PM - Greece on track for drachma

http://economicinsightgreece.blogspot.com/2011/11/papademos-rejected-as-pm-greece-on.html

Wednesday, November 9, 2011. Papademos rejected as PM - Greece on track for drachma. Today i woke up and not only has Greece yet to decide on an interim Prime Minister but that the front runner was steam rollered. The obvious choice of Papademos was vetoed at the last minute by current deputy PM and Finance minister Eleftherios Venizelos. (He denies it but sources close to him confirm it.). Yes - people here think that a politician is a career that one can actually train for). No longer will they have ov...

Economic Insight Greece: Man shoots himself in the head in public square: Athens, Greece

http://economicinsightgreece.blogspot.com/2012/04/man-shoots-himself-in-head-in-public.html

Wednesday, April 4, 2012. Man shoots himself in the head in public square: Athens, Greece. Greece is in a state of shock this morning when it heard the news that an elderly man walked into Athens' Syntagma square - the heart of Athens, sat down on a park bench and calmly drew a gun shooting himself in the head. While politicians bicker - people and the very country is dying. This article also appears here. Wednesday, April 04, 2012. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Learn more about the Greek economy.

Economic Insight Greece: Invest in Greece - Entering a new era

http://economicinsightgreece.blogspot.com/2011/08/invest-in-greece-entering-new-era.html

Tuesday, August 2, 2011. Invest in Greece - Entering a new era. There are two ways for Greece to get out of the crisis. One is to reduce the debt burden, the other is to increase growth, however this is not an either / or choice and the country must chase both. As i have mentioned before, the private sector cannot continuously look to the government for cash, therefore the importance of Foreign Direct Investment becomes even more important in encouraging growth. Following is an excerpt. Invest in Greece ...

Paul and Nicole move to Greece. The story of our relocation from Glasgow, Scotland to Kalymnos, Greece. Saturday, October 25, 2008. Financial Crisis Fails to Rock our Rock. Down here in Kalymnos, we've heard a rumour that there is some kind of huge financial crisis engulfing the world and everyone's going to die. I don't know. A quick check on the Kalymnos money markets reveal that not much has changed:. Perhaps the hysteria is out of proportion? Labels: Life in Kalymnos. Friday, October 17, 2008. Paul a...

Disaster Preparedness, Survival Knives | Surviving at Home

There are many things to think about when you're intending to prepare for a disaster. Of course, you'll want the ability to light up the area, so you'll have reason to pick up some emergency candles. Protecting yourself or being able to cut through things can also be important in the case of a disaster, which is why you may want to look into picking up a machete. Or one of our survival knives. If you're looking for something more all-purpose, however, you might be best off with a Guardian survival kit.
