Live in the Sunshine, Swim in the Sea, Drink the Wild Air: Surviving Samoa. Sunday, November 17, 2013. They say you can't do it, but I did it. I went home again. Twice. A hot cup of apple cider. A white afghan. Blueberry muffins just out of the oven. These are the things that surround me as I write. Closure. Closure that wouldn’t have come without it. I worked a year of odd jobs. I answered angry calls from angry people in a call center. I changed poopy diapers on poopy toddlers at a daycare....And now, ...

Live in the Sunshine, Swim in the Sea, Drink the Wild Air: Surviving Samoa: June 2012

http://www.survivingsamoa.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Live in the Sunshine, Swim in the Sea, Drink the Wild Air: Surviving Samoa. Wednesday, June 6, 2012. A Girl, a Ghost, and a Girdle. What people consider normal or aberrant is defined by their culture; any anthropology 101 class teaches you that. And this typically leads to debates about universalism versus cultural relativism. And this historically leads to disagreements, war, and mass slaughter. However, this next story of defining “crazy” won’t go that far. So what’s really crazy? Sunday, June 3, 2012.

Live in the Sunshine, Swim in the Sea, Drink the Wild Air: Surviving Samoa. Wednesday, December 19, 2012. Breaking Up with Evan. To Samoa, nature decided to hit Samoa again. This post is about what it’s like to not be where you want to be, to not be with people you care about, to check Facebook too many times a day for updates, pictures, anything letting you know that your November goodbye wasn’t officially the last goodbye you would ever have with that place and those people. I am a Samoan girl now....

Friday, September 20, 2013. Paul and Bex's Wedding. The impetus for this trip was Paul's Wedding, which was today, and Jim's wedding, which is next weekend. Rather than writing out an entire post about all this, I'm going to enjoy the festivities and leave you with some pictures from today's events. The wedding was held at the Tofua trench on the south side of Upolu. I hope you're well. All of the wedding's guests rode a Samoan bus from Apia to Tofua. Dan, Blakey, AJ, and Chris. Matt's Samoa Blog: 15 Hours in Fiji

http://www.diplomatt.org/2013/09/15-hours-in-fiji.html

Monday, September 16, 2013. 15 Hours in Fiji. On the other hand, the day was enlightening. First of all, what better way to get a taste of a new place than by driving 90 miles through its countryside? I saw a whole lotta Fiji today, granted from an air-conditioned bus. But the bus was travelling at 18 mph, on average. Finally, the 9 hours on the bus allowed for some quiet contemplation. I hope you’re well. Pictures below. I saw this orange house on the road. I liked it. The open-air market in Suva. You a...
