Poems 2009 | Old Brown Shoes

You sucked the air right out of our lungs when you flew away. Your music is the only thing that can soothe this helplessness. But I can’t listen to it anymore – it makes me angry and sick. It brings it all back like a storm. The enormity of your absence…. Of this loss. I guess we are the fortunate ones. But I see no fortune in having to grieve for you in this unexpected way. The things you play are so distinctly you. I listen to it, and I can breath you, your smell of ash and perfume. I miss you very much.
