UPHOLDING THE LEAFY CANOPY. Another branch of the tree is the work she calls narrative sculpture. In these the stories are told through visual metaphor and text. These multimedia works use words, visual metaphors, touch and often the senses of smell and hearing. The story is revealed uniquely to each visitor when they manipulate the items.

In the late 1970's Susan began a serious hobbyist's interest in handmade paper, producing colorful wall work on biological themes. Life, in all its vicissitudes, intervened, pushing paper out of the studio for 4 or 5 years. Parenthood limited art production to clay. Widowhood shut down all art production for a time, but ultimately re-opened the door to drawing, writing and papermaking.

I never in a million years thought I would make the cut on this one: 2 of my Deconstructing Power. Series were invited to be part of the show EXTREME FIBERS, at the Muskegon Museum of Ar. T, next fall. Another 2 of them were invited to be part of a Women's Caucus for Art show outside of St. Louis. Reimaging Femmage, at the Foundry Art Centre.

I have been working on other things. When I was designing the Habitat Scrapbook, I also designed the book for "I Dwell in Possibility.". This is a project my son and I collaborated on. I was just post surgery and pretty out of it when we did the shoot. I love the outcome! But, good grief! I typo-ed our names!
