The Discomforts of Diversity. Saturday, July 20, 2013. But it is the thing I want to tell now. A friend of mine recently said that this is what she thinks of as faith . . . not religious, but the feeling that you'll always have what you need when you need it. Links to this post. The Discomforts of Diversity: December 2012
http://ethnicwords.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
The Discomforts of Diversity. Monday, December 17, 2012. Irony or Something Like That. I have edited and read enough literature and critical thinking and language-conscious books to realize that I am no longer certain of whether I understand the concept of irony in its true sense. I did look it up in the dictionary. And see that the idea of incongruity is part of it, but I am still not certain that the story I am about to tell should truly be labeled irony. Links to this post. The Discomforts of Diversity: May 2013
http://ethnicwords.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
The Discomforts of Diversity. Thursday, May 16, 2013. A few years back, I flew to San Francisco to visit my sister. On the airplane, I was seated on the aisle (my favorite position), a man was seated at the window, and the middle seat was empty. This was so very odd. Could I actually be seated- squished actually- beside my next-door neighbor and not know it for certain- all the way to California? Could I actually be that. The answer to both questions was an uncomfortable yes. Links to this post. The Univ...

The Discomforts of Diversity: Reverse Embezzlement

A friend of mine recently said that this is what she thinks of as faith . . . not religious, but the feeling that you'll always have what you need when you need it. So nice to see such a beautiful story during these times. My father died July 15, 1980. He is very much present and our son is his grandfather, from looking like him to having Daddys good traits. The Discomforts of Diversity: Litter Redux
http://ethnicwords.blogspot.com/2013/08/litter-redux.html
The Discomforts of Diversity. Friday, August 23, 2013. The Litter Lady (LL) would like to share with her readers this recent exchange she had with a perceptive reader (PR). I anxiously await to hear whether the Litter Lady ascertains that this tougher sanction deters the crime of littering. Doubtless, the Litter Lady regrets that the Litter Control Act does not reward citizens who pick up litter. Assuredly, the Litter Lady believes that the carrot works better than the stick. The Litter Lady wonders whet...

The Discomforts of Diversity: April 2013
http://ethnicwords.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
The Discomforts of Diversity. Monday, April 29, 2013. As we went, I began to develop this thought or question about the pony farm, which I articulated by saying, "Are we really. Going to the pony farm? We never did get to the pony farm because, I think, D could not find it. Instead, we ended up at a beach, where we all ran into the lake and dove in, fully clothed. I expect the answer would have been yes and no. What I meant was, "Is this a dream? And if it is, how do I interpret it? Links to this post.

The Discomforts of Diversity: Another Walk with Me
http://ethnicwords.blogspot.com/2013/08/another-walk-with-me.html
The Discomforts of Diversity. Wednesday, August 21, 2013. Another Walk with Me. Today, I was approaching the high school on my mid-day walk. Yes, the big local high school with it's broad Frank Lloyd Wright eves. I've written about it before. Here it is. What if an exhausted parent was trying to put a child down for a nap? What if someone had a home office and was trying to concentrate on an important and complex problem? What if someone was ill and in pain and need to rest? While I sympathize for the of...
