Diary of an artist in residence at the national maritime museum cornwall. It’s the final countdown. Here are the details of sculpture number 8 – the final one. It’s heavily influenced by the maquette I described in “Walk tall” my previous blog. It’s also the second in a series of Carcass sculptures inspired by the old rotting carcasses of wooden boats found up muddy creeks everywhere. This is Carcass I which can be found in the Sapna Pieroux private collection. The wood is teak from an old work surface.

I’ve been distributing posters for the sculpture exhibition at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall and creating a catalogue. Skeleton, tulip wood, 190x55x53 cm. This one is why the exhibition is called Skeleton. Its one of the first images that popped into my head as I began to think about all the sculptures I would make that were inspired by traditional wooden boats. This used to ...

Diary of an artist in residence at the national maritime museum cornwall. The first time ever I saw ……. The first of this series of sculptures has been languishing in the workshop. I’ve called it Ship. And I wasn’t sure it was going to see the light of day! Things are looking brighter now that I have spent the last month working on it. In the beginning I was fascinated by the curves seen on a clinker-built boat so I played around with plastic strips and paperclips. June 20, 2016. June 21, 2016 at 3:12 pm.

Oh star of wonder, star of night | rob johnsey
https://robjohnsey.com/2015/12/21/oh-star-of-wonder-star-of-night
Diary of an artist in residence at the national maritime museum cornwall. Oh star of wonder, star of night. Just finished my starry, starry night in time for Christmas. The night-time blue is a bit wishy washy at the moment but I can improve on that with more blue washes on the inside. The wax batik worked a treat. I used a birthday candle, which fortunately had some yellow colouring in, to drip dots representing stars onto the inside of the dome. Marking out some constellations with bits of masking tape.

Polaroid Transfers and Lifts. I am an alchemist. I turn metals into gold. My influences range from the Daguerreotypists of the 19th century such as James Presley Ball and Augustus Washington who lived and worked in their communities as African-American photographers and abolitionists. Both Ball and Washington photographed John Brown and Frederick Douglas. They have given us visual mementos of who came before and their importance in history.

susannalange999 | My unlimited life
The most fun I’ve ever had…. The most fun I have is when I get up in the morning and don’t live the perfect routine but have the intend to do whatever will most build my body and the body of everyone around me that day. What can I say, what can I do, how can I interact with my co-workers and clients so that their life is easier that day? How can I make the people around me feel valuable, wanted, smart and just overall great? How many people can I make feel that way? There is no downside to living…. Basic...
