Susan Romyn - Silver

I have recently become captured by the world of silver. Working with the generous assistance of Lorraine Archibald, a well known gellong silversmith, I have been re-kindling skills not used for some years. Most of this work has been produced in Studio 47 Malop Street, where I am able to extend my themes and imagery into silver jewellery. The work has been well recieved. Below are just a few examples. I have branched out from black and white printmaking into canvases and colour over recent years. Texture and layering have become more important in the picture, like people, it's the personaility of the piece that makes them interesting. This, with a sense of whimsy and often 'tongue in cheek' social comment, is what I believe is the essence of my work in this medium. There is nothing like diving out of the familiar into the new and terrifying. I'm pleased to report I have survived to tell the tale!

Known first as a printmaker, I continue to print all the time. It tends to keep me grounded. The process is seductive and I find that as time goes by, my images have become more adventurous and thought provoking. My technique is shrouded in secrecy, and has taken me over a decade to develop. This is then combined with influences of daily life, a focus on the whimsical, and the preciousness of every moment; to produce my prints. Oh, and a lot of blood, sweat and tears.

Friday, July 23, 2010. My sister comes to save the day! Mark and the other fellows flew to Rhode Island last week for a five day conference. So my sister flew down here so I wouldn't have to be alone this close to my due date. We spent the weekend shopping for last minute baby things. We did up all of the baby laundry and got everything. Put away. But most importantly, she was able to play and entertain Breezy while I took it easy. Breezy was soooo. Excited to have her Aunt LaLa. Here all to herself!
