Wrath Of God Herself. Thursday, 30 August 2012. I'm asking myself if there's any point to writing a blog post advertising the fact that I'm about to go away on a writing retreat. For that matter, who's likely to read this and be other than envious at my good fortune or furious that they've not been given the same opportunity? And then there's the question of where I'm going. Suffice it to say, I'll be one of five writer guests at a castle ( yes, a real castle, not merely a poetic metaphor. Ed. The gift o...

Wrath Of God Herself. Saturday, 17 May 2014. Mary Stewart, and things connected. This is a poem I wrote about that life, and how it progressed, and it refers to the Mary Stewart influences (though I think I got the novel reference wrong - it was surely Airs Above The Ground I was thinking of, with the great car leaping up a snowy mountainside.). Wrath Of God Herself. Monday, 1 October 2012. Advancing after a retreat. I'm back. The writing retreat which took me away from home for the entire month of September was at Hawthornden Castle. Not far outside Edinburgh. Here's a pic of my room's desk on which lies a MacBook my friend Shona very kindly gave me on the day she drove me out there (the eagle-eyed will note an old iMac keyboard and mouse, brought along because I'm not up to speed on trackpads.). Wrath Of God Herself. Wednesday, 20 June 2012. It's a while since I posted anything, and that's good, because it means I've been busy working. Writing. I have been busy, writing. A novel. Or, the effing novel, as I call it in moments of stress. Why am I still not finished? Horrible questions, but understandable, even when asking them of oneself. Just what that interesting and personal. Thing is I'll reveal in due course ( never talk about ongoing projects until the contract is signed. Nevertheless, I hav...

Wrath Of God Herself. Wednesday, 16 April 2014. What is #WoMentoring and why am I doing it? On April 15th the WoMentoringProject. Was launched "to offer free mentoring by professional literary women to talented up and coming female writers who would otherwise find it difficult to access similar opportunities.". I'm glad to be part of it. About ten weeks ago, I saw a tweet by writer Kerry Hudson. Why do I use the phrase 'believed in'? I'm not sure I 'believe' in anything. And a gift I've received from som...

Wrath Of God Herself. Thursday, 14 February 2013. Things I used to be. Photo by John Brown. Ages ago I promised someone that I'd find and post some photos of my 'musical career' - that sounded quite grand, and it really wasn't, though I did have a song-wot-I-wrote* played by John Peel, and then 'playlisted' by Radio Forth. I began doing comedy in the early 1980s with an Edinburgh-based Feminist Theatre company called Mother Hen. Don't blame me, I didn't name it! One year ( date eludes me). With the house...

It's been a while since I sewed with any regularity (or any great flexibility of the fingers) but I used to do so a lot. She maintains to this day that it was a fine piece of work. Perhaps in recent years words have become the embroidery, or words are the clothing itself, a textual way to deal with reality. Initiated and curated by Newcastle-based word-tailor Helen Limon. Wrath Of God Herself. Monday, 9 January 2012. In my last post of 2011, News for a New Year in Which New Things May Happen. I wrote about the recent meeting between the Society of Authors, the Writers' Guild and Equity, (three organisations representing writers and actors) and the BBC's representatives responsible for the cuts to Radio 4's short stories. I wrote: " .Mr Davie.[is]. head of 'Audio and Music' not of Drama. Ie, the whole network. Wrath Of God Herself. Thursday, 5 January 2012. What value do I.

Wrath Of God Herself. Monday, 20 February 2012. NOTHING - a limited edition mini-book. I have a story-poem or poem-story, or dream-poem-story-type-thing that doesn't seem to fit into a category anyone in the world of Real Publishing would be interested in, but I rather like it, so over the past few weeks I've been playing with layouts and templates and have now assembled it into a miniature book. (Pages 2 to 9 are text, 1 is front and 10 is back cover). And the last word is: nothing. Wrath Of God Herself.

Wrath Of God Herself. Thursday, 29 December 2011. News for a New Year in which New Things May Happen. On December 20th, there was a second meeting. Quite honestly, I do not know what to say about this - and that's probably what I'm intended to feel. Steamrollered, flattened, exhausted by the process of six months of campaigning,. And in the end - shut down, empty, silenced. I've not yet been able to talk to Nicola or Jo about the meeting, but gather that the almost 9,000 strong petition against these cuts.
