SustainableHomestead

Saturday, May 11, 2013. This week I had the opportunity to test a fun pattern called the Tumble Tee for Rachael of Imagine Gnats. Color blocking and simple lines - yay! There is so much room for creativity here, which is what I needed because I had two of my husband's shirts to upcycle. If you have ever tried to make men's large shirts into a 9.5 year old girl's dress, you know what a challenge this can be! I have seen some C-U-T-E dresses made for babies from it too! SustainableHomestead: What's In Your Smoothie?

http://www.sustainablehomestead.blogspot.com/2011/01/whats-in-your-smoothie.html

Tuesday, January 25, 2011. What's In Your Smoothie? You're going to think I've totally gone off the deep end. This weekend I made a smoothie for my lunch. Yea, that's not nuts. I put 2 cups of fresh spinach in it. That used to be thought of as crazy, but now green smoothies are more commonplace. My kids were having sweet potato for their veggie so. it sort of just jumped into my blender. And I LIKED it! I'll be honest. This is NOT my favorite veggie by any means. I have a curry cauliflower soup r...I hat...

SustainableHomestead: Treasures

http://www.sustainablehomestead.blogspot.com/2010/12/treasures.html

Friday, December 3, 2010. My own children discovered this fact a few days ago. What joy! This is another Christmas treasure. I think this chiming rolly-polly Santa was given to me on my first Christmas. That would be somewhere in the 1970s. I *suppose* that makes it vintage. Oh my. Some of his paint is chipping off, but he has taken some beatings and still is well-loved. I am quite sure he will see even more rough play in the years to come. Sorry, Santa! So, I introduce to you my family's new tree skirt!

Piou piou: chairs revamp

http://pioupioukids.blogspot.com/2012/11/chairs-revamp.html

The love of upcycling: turning the old into new. Wednesday, November 14, 2012. Josh has been dreaming of having a set of matching chairs. Don't ask me why, I can't understand either. He'll happily wear mismatched socks, use the floor as his wardrobe (he calls it "floordrobe") and put all sorts of nails and screws in one big box that has to be tipped out every time you're looking for a specific size of nail. The cut out paper is from a stack I bought in China 10 or 15 years ago and that I've been using up...

There's the nice tidy clean way, and then there's. well this. PS Do your kids go completely nuts when it's very windy outside? http://pioupioukids.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

The love of upcycling: turning the old into new. Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Make your own: colored beeswax candles and giveaway. A little while ago I posted about our birhday party, and how I made some candles using some Agee jars I had lying around (after being inspired by some photos of tea cup candles in a magazine). So, if you want to make some at home, all you need is some beeswax (you can buy some on Trademe), some colored crayons and some candle wick (also on Trademe). And if you're wondering if ...
