Monday, March 15, 2010. Back from a blogging break with BAGELS to share. Tom and I have recently discovered that homemade bagels are the BEST THING EVER. Bagels fresh out of the oven are far superior to ones purchased in a plastic bag from the store. We used the bagel recipe from Vegan Brunch. Which requires a few steps but is easy to put together. Monday, September 7, 2009. Pumpkin Soup in a Pumpkin. It's been a mild summer in Illinois. Very few really hot days, and plenty of cool ones. As a result, my craving for Fall weather meals has arrived early. Thankfully, the pumpkins from our garden were harvestable this past week so I took it upon myself to finally make some delicious pumpkin soup. Monday, August 17, 2009. Here is a delicious snack you can make out of all those many cherry tomatoes coming into season right now. I used the sun golds that we have growing, but any type of cherry tomato will work. 2 handfuls of cherry tomatoes (enough to cover the pan that goes in your toaster oven, one layer only). 3 or more cloves of garlic. 1 tbs olive oil. 1/2 tbs balsamic vinegar. 2 tsp fresh rosemary. 4-5 fresh basil leaves torn into pieces. Our winter appetites long for something fresh so we accept this tart vegetable as placeholder in our pies until the real fruits ripen. Then it is forgotten until next spring. March 2, 2015. I was making a batch of bread dumplings. And it was a rather large batch, so I decided to pretzelize two of the loaves. I added a shake of baking soda to the boiling water and boiled them like normal. Then I put them on a pan, sprinkled salt on them, and baked them for a bit. January 14, 2015. My homemade shelves found a new purpose! The shelves were originally built to showcase canned and fermented foods. In our dining area. A year or two later we moved to a house with a smaller dining area so we stowed the shelves away in the second bedroom. Next we had a kid and the second bedroom became a kid's bedroom.
