ORANGE SOIL / PACKAGING. The aim of the project was to bring back the excitement of walking in the beautiful streets of Stellenbosch. A culture was established under students that one should walk rather than drive, but in recent years more and more students prefer driving in the already over-crowded streets. PORTABLE CHAIR / PRODUCT DESIGN. I used the chair as a metaphor for bringing people together and sitting them down to interact and socialise. The chair is the catalyst for bringing communities together. I designed a portable cardboard chair for a project. It was important that the chair could travel with you and enable you to take a seat anywhere; thus taking the sitting room into the streets. TAKING TO THE STREETS / PROMOTIONAL. A range of promotional items were designed that conveys the character of the street market. Paper cups, paper bags, chains and yo-yo’s. To promote the street market, a chair skating competition was held. The invitation consisted of 4 wheels that could be attached to your chair of choice. There was a need to create awareness around community development and talking about people’s needs and dreams by creating this space for talking. I made a series of postcards and badges. The postcards were photographs taken of the children at their homes in Kyamandi. Their wishes for their community were printed on the postcards. The postcards were sold to help fund the Community Development Centre in Kayamandi. Be sure to get in touch. If you need any design work done.
