Crossing the Threshold: August 2011

The Writers Journey - Craft, Struggles and Joys. Saturday, August 20, 2011. Six Sentence Sunday - "The Godstone". For this foray into Six Sentence Sunday, I chose a scene from a fantasy work-in-progress, "The Godstone." This scene shows the awakening of the heroine's hidden gift and takes place in the midst of a pitched battle on a city's ramparts. Her amulet wanted something- needed something. Tanwyn's eyes dropped shut. White fire seared from her hands. Labels: Six Sentence Sunday.

The Writers Journey - Craft, Struggles and Joys. Sunday, August 19, 2012. Dean Wesley Smith Workshop and My Story in a Day Challege. On Friday, I spent most of the day creating a 5000 word short story from scratch. I had no advance preparation. No planning. No nothing, but a hard deadline that I had to write the words "The End" by the end of the day. Part of the reason for this challenge is that I'll be attending Dean Wesley Smith's Character Voice and Setting. Don't get me wrong, I still have some trepi...

In very sad news, ...

Literally - Rock N Roll. Music and Motorcycles is what it's all about! Saturday, December 17, 2011. Who Is Ready For Christmas? As 2011 comes to a close, I have been trying to tie up some loose ends as far as finances and first drafts go. I wrote a 50,000 word novel in November for the infamous NaNoWriMo. I met many cool people and learned a few things about what a lot of writers do when rushed for wordage and have no idea what to write. Right now I am outlining a memoir type book. Literally - Rock N Roll. Music and Motorcycles is what it's all about! Tuesday, February 21, 2012. Into The Pit - Philly Metal. Thrash is Back! I didn't get into heavy metal until my twenties. I did listen to bands like Motley Crue, Judas Priest and Triumph when I was a teenager. Yeah some of them are considered heavy metal - but not all of them. Thrash is back and it is everywhere. All over the country. All over the world! There is a huge music scene in Philadelphia and people need to know about it!

Crossing the Threshold: October 2011

The Writers Journey - Craft, Struggles and Joys. Monday, October 31, 2011. Tonight, I crossed the finish line of October Madness. I didn't miss a single day, even through being sick and having a root canal. (And that's saying something- dental work messes me up like there's no tomorrow.). My word count for October came in at 19,585, less than half of what I intend to put out in November. That's okay. I can do it. I have faith in myself and belief in my work. What a word rush! Sunday, October 16, 2011.

Crossing the Threshold: September 2011

The Writers Journey - Craft, Struggles and Joys. Friday, September 30, 2011. Launching October Madness in 3 . 2 .1 . Today I took myself to Barnes and Noble and picked up my writing-prompt source for the month of October. I know from experience that I work better with visual prompts than with word prompts, so I selected Spectrum 17: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art. There are over 400 images inside, and I am exercising great restraint by. October Madness, starting in 3 . 2 . 1 . Every day in the mo...

The Writers Journey - Craft, Struggles and Joys. Saturday, October 27, 2012. Days Waiting Challenge" Accomplished! Way back in June, I set myself a challenge to see how long it would take me to rack up a cumulative total of 365 days waiting for responses to stories on submission. As of yesterday, October 26, 2012, I accomplished that goal. With ten stories at markets, I had exactly 365 days total of wait time. It took me 140 days from the time I set the challenge. Now, I need a new challenge.
