What time is it here or there? Frank and I are cruising around the world on our yacht, Destiny, an Island Packet Yacht (IPY) 485. August 2 – Sept 13, 2013 – Happy 65th to Frank and. We don't want to live in the past, but we do need to learn to live comfortably with it. Everyone has his own fingerprints. The...

Barb's Thoughts: January 2013
http://barbgladney.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Friday, January 18, 2013. January 2013 – An amazing and busy month in Phuket and Chiang Mai, Thailand Part 1 (Phuket). Waiting our turn to go play. January and February are two of the very best cruising months here, but what can you do when the sails are off, the generator is not running and the watermaker is in pieces? Sit and melt in the brutal and humid heat! A few days later we joined Mark and Laura ( Sabbatical III. Posted by Barb Gladney. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I invite you...

Barb's Thoughts: May 2012
http://barbgladney.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 31, 2012. May 28 – 31, 2012 Cairns. All in all it was a lovely day, and as we wandered back toward the marina big dark clouds began building like giant black cotton balls being crammed on top of one another. It just might get ugly. It did get ugly and cold! Our plans to grill turned into Frank running out for a pizza (I would have cooked but he was Jones-ing for pizza), and then we snuggled up to watch Revenge. On TV Yes, we are hooked and enslaved to this show now every Monday night. She a...

Barb's Thoughts: March 25 - 27, 2013 – Saigon and Mekong Delta (Part 2)
http://barbgladney.blogspot.com/2014/06/march-25-27-2013-saigon-and-mekong_16.html
Sunday, March 31, 2013. March 25 - 27, 2013 – Saigon and Mekong Delta (Part 2). On Monday we hopped the tour bus headed for the Mekong Delta. At the boat landing, we boarded a long wooden boat and were seated on folding bamboo chairs. This boat is selling yams. After cruising the river villages for a while we stopped at a rice processing plant (well, more of an exhibit area to show the process). Making the rice paper. There was a tank full of live snakes that utterly gave me the creeps! We had to very ca...

Barb's Thoughts: March 28 – 31, 2014 Nha Trang
http://barbgladney.blogspot.com/2014/06/march-28-31-2014-nha-trang.html
Wednesday, April 3, 2013. March 28 – 31, 2014 Nha Trang. We took an early train out of Saigon to Nha Trang, an absolutely beautiful seaside resort with pristine white beaches. Because quiet beaches are hard to come by in Phuket where Destiny is based at present, we planned to just kick back, relax and enjoy the peace and solitude away from the hustle and bustle of traffic and city noise. Views from our room. Taken thru the window but the colors are still quite pretty. There isn't much exciting to say abo...

Barb's Thoughts: April 2012
http://barbgladney.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 25, 2012. April 23, 24, 2012 - Great Keppel Island. Scallywag anchored at Great Keppel. Tuesday, the 24. It's a good thing there is no malaria or Dengue in these parts. He added that he wasn't interested in navigating the swells for a safe landing. A chat with The Scallys later revealed that they as well had been chewed up and were miserably itching all over. I'm so happy I took that nap! Posted by Barb Gladney. Labels: Australia (Whitsunday Grp). Sunday, April 22, 2012. 5 AM wakeup call...

Barb's Thoughts: November 2012
http://barbgladney.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 21, 2012. November 16 - 18, 2012 Sailing from Port Dickson to Pangkor - Swelly, Smelly, Stormy, Strange and Just a Bit Scary. We knew that we would have a 2-knot current on the nose leaving Port Dickson, but that by 9 AM it should turn in our favor. Based on this information we decided to leave well after 8:00 AM. Right now we have entered the vein-like canals that meander through the islands outside of Port Klang. They are absolutely strewn with communities of floating fish farms...

New Genoa Sail Cover – UK Sailmakers Rock. March 23, 2013. Just installed the new Genoa sailcover today, and boy this cost me more than I anticipated. Interior Metal Polishing and Brightwork |

Interior Metal Polishing and Brightwork. December 7, 2014. After a great experience with Marina Del Rey Yacht Detailing. We chose to work with Chris and Lia long term. Their work on the Hull polishing and topside brightwork was very impressive, so we decided to start attacking the faded, corroded metal components down below (hinges, handles, exposed aluminum latches, etc.) – this is phase one. Before pictures of the pieces below deck:. Companion way lock and latch mechanism (before). Bar Keepers Friend 3...
