Saturday, June 26, 2010. A catbird showed up in my back yard a few weeks ago. For a few days he sang with great energy, then he seemed to disappear. Just after I had remarked that he must have moved on, a pair of catbirds flew near, as if to correct my mistake, and to let me know that their noisy courtship phase had given way to the quiet business of nest building and chick-rearing. After some quiet weeks, this encounter occurred:. Is he proud of just having fledged a batch of young catbirds?
