This is a Washington pattern hand press that was built in 1847 or so. It has a bed that measures 24 x 36 inches. It weighs almost 3,000 pounds and can imprint with more force than any other press ever built. It is particularly useful for making intaglio impressions on thick dampened paper with engraved dies.
