The Busy Bee Garden Project, Part Two | sweet juniper!

The Busy Bee Garden Project, Part Two. Posted by jdg Thursday, September 29, 2011 Detroit. Now that we've reached. Some things did get pretty out of control:. In early August, I noticed a mildew developing on some of the pumpkin leaves. Within a week it spread to the rest of the cucurbita leaves, and although it broke my heart I cut out about 80 percent of the vines that I had been watering for months. I lost my grape vines to a similar blight. The garden suddenly looked naked. In the first post. Other t...

Posted by jdg Tuesday, July 01, 2008 Detroit. Art work by our friend Xenos at Xenos Designs. One of the highlights of my week. Is scouring the newspaper's weekly calendar of local events for activities to break up the monotony. Estonian folk dancing at the public library! Burlesque costuming workshop at Studio 601! One of the Wayans brothers is coming to town! Hot damn, I thought, that will burn at least an hour of daylight! A truck full of potties? She screamed, "Where? There just weren't any kids.

Wednesday, April 6, 2011. What is it for? By Henry Humphrey (1969). I love books written for city kids. What is it For? I love the examples like this that you still see in cities but might not be used so much anymore; vestiges of an earlier time. Look at this &%$#ing hipster. Previous Book: Mary and Marie. Friday, September 23, 2011. Another Selection from our Collection of Terrifying Reagan-Era Children's Books: Goodbye Rune (1986). What is perhaps the saddest children's book we own. I pity the poor parent who buys this thinking Goodbye Rune. Is another stupid Goodnight Moon. Knockoff. It starts out pleasant enough, with two children romping across the Scandinavian fields together. . . And hold each other ever so tenderly. . . Was originally published in Norway as Farvel, Rune. Then, as if things weren't ...

Posted by jdg Friday, April 11, 2014. My daughter's favorite book is Roald Dahl's The BFG. That black-hooded thing is the invisible cloak he wears while delivering dreams, which are kept in a little glass bottle in his pocket (I used glitter rather than actual dreams). Yes, I bought glitter to put in a dainty glass bottle. Why am I admitting this to the world? At the Roald Dahl museum. I cobbled mine together out of scrap leather. She did most of that work herself, including the dress. Without giving too...

Monday, July 4, 2011. Brian Wildsmith's 1,2,3's (1965). This book wasn't nearly as successful. As British children's book illustrator Brian Wildsmith. S highly-lauded abcedary ABC. Which remains in print today. This book was published one year later (1963 in the U.K., 1965 in the U.S.) and is widely available on Amazon or eBay, and I think it was just a little too abstract for the audience he won over with ABC. S lovely figurative drawings. Brian Wildsmiths 1,2,3s (1965). Friday Morning Street Urchins.
