Nuova Edonista: February 2008
http://nuovaedonista.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 14, 2008. Christmas was a bit of a let-down for me this year. I spent it with a few friends and ate a lovely meal, but it wasn't the completely enthralling, October-November-December-consuming holiday of my childhoods. Same for Halloween (I used to start planning my costumes in June). Which means that what I'm about to tell you about may be, in fact, my favorite holiday. And appreciating being single and having such good friends. And now we're in 2008. My beloved holiday is taking ...

Stoked: Holiday base miles
http://stokediam.blogspot.com/2010/12/holiday-base-miles.html
And other states of mind. Sunday, December 26, 2010. Just a quick follow up on my pledge to ride 1,000 miles between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The weather cooperated (no snow or ice) and I beat my goal. A short ride on Christmas Eve pushed my total to 1,111 (couldn't have hit THAT figure if I'd tried! I also ran 30 miles during that period. Stoked: December 2009
http://stokediam.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
And other states of mind. Thursday, December 31, 2009. 2009 recap, part 2. Thursday, 31 December. So, the numbers. Total bike miles on the road: 12,333 (assuming no catastrophic events deter me from the usual ride home from work this afternoon). Surprisingly, that is down from 2008 (12,693). Month with the most miles: May, with 1653 miles. Month with the least miles: November, with 757 (that was the month with 11 days off the bike for vacation). Most miles in one week (7 days): 599. The biggest bummer of...

And other states of mind. Monday, May 31, 2010. Shrine of the times. Saturday was the Lewis and Clark 12/24. I've done this race (12-hour version) twice before on my single bike, and the goal this year was to do it on the tandem. We didn't aspire to any enormous distance in our allotted 12 hours, just log some fun miles and establish a tandem course record (there isn't one). Links to this post. Monday, May 24, 2010. Monday, 25 May. Don’t get me wrong. I could not have harmed the animal intentio...Maybe n...

Stoked: Meaningless data for 2010
http://stokediam.blogspot.com/2010/12/meaningless-data-for-2010.html
And other states of mind. Friday, December 31, 2010. Meaningless data for 2010. Recently wondered “why do rides seem so meaningless when your powertap doesn’t work? What I really meant in response to Jen’s question was that every mile on a bicycle should be meaningful with or without data, even if you don’t know that it was a mile you just traveled or 300 seconds of your life that it consumed. My most memorable moments on a bike in 2010 were these:. Really, though, the most memorable moment was the day a...

Stoked: November 2010
http://stokediam.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
And other states of mind. Friday, November 26, 2010. Sibling rivalry, or how many miles to Christmas? So I have 29 days to cover 1,000 miles. Just 34.5 miles a day. I got in 73 today, so I'm off to a good start. If I get desperate near the end, there's always the solstice ride (ride from sunset to sunrise through the longest night of the year), but I hope it doesn't come to that! I'll keep a total on my Facebook wall so you can hold me accountable. Join me? Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Adventures in Dessert: June 2009
http://giantsweettooth.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Because fat is flavor, and butter makes it better. Monday, June 29, 2009. Bay Area pastry chefs just can't catch a break? Tough times to be a pastry chef. Not only are patrons tightening their belt (and their budget) when it comes to fine dining and desserts, but this morning Michael Bauer kinda called you boring. Part of the reason is that my expectations are low. This isn't the first time MB's complained. About the sweet fare out here. My suggestions for the Bauer? And let's take a second to think abou...
