The Olsons: Nurses
http://theolsonsite.blogspot.com/2014/11/nurses.html
Friday, November 14, 2014. I'm not sure I could ever properly put into words the gratitude I feel for the nurses who have cared for Natalie, but I will at least try to in this post. This is directed at not just the nurses in this PICU, but all of the nurses who have so lovingly cared for our daughter - and us - over the past eight years. From the day Natalie was born, we have met the most amazing women, and a couple of men, who have spent their lives taking care of others. Over the past month, I've done ...

http://larsonmanor.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
The Larson Manor Blog. Monday, May 18, 2015. Our friend, T-Rex joined us for the bash. What a difference a year makes. Such a happy boy at his party. Mimi helping Nik out. Everyone loved the cupcakes. Natasha being a good big sister. Nikolaus went skiing on his actual birthday! Look who turned 2 (almost 6 months ago)! Why does it go even faster with the second child? He went skiing for the first time. Amazing! Weight: 23 lbs. 12.5 oz. (50th percentile). Height: 31 1/2" (75th percentile).

The Olsons: Birthday Girl
http://theolsonsite.blogspot.com/2015/01/birthday-girl.html
Friday, January 16, 2015. It's my birthday. I'm 36 years old. Isn't it weird how birthdays change over the years? When I was a kid and teenager, I couldn't wait for my birthday so I could open my presents. In my early 20s, it was a good excuse to "celebrate." Now, it's just another day on the calendar. I'm more interested in sipping wine and eating sushi in my pajamas than I am of going out and celebrating. So, back to today. It was a pretty awesome day! Blurry morning snuggles before sunrise. My birthda...

The Olsons: We're Going Home!
http://theolsonsite.blogspot.com/2014/11/were-going-home.html
Monday, November 17, 2014. A last look at Natalie's super cute hospital home. Five weeks ago today, nearly to the hour, Natalie was admitted to the hospital in Minot. Today, she gets to return home. Over the years, her ability to swallow has diminished, and without a g-tube, aspirating (getting food in her lungs) has been a concern, as has refluxing from her stomach right into her lungs.something we didn't even realize was happening. All of this combined with a virus of some sort and a severe asthma atta...

The Olsons: Day 27: Frustration & Faith
http://theolsonsite.blogspot.com/2014/11/day-27-frustration-faith.html
Saturday, November 8, 2014. Day 27: Frustration and Faith. The days are just flying by here in PICU room 477. Another week has passed, and the improvement is slow, but steady. There are many things to be thankful for, but there are also many rough spots along the way that leave me scared and frustrated. This morning, Natalie is resting peacefully in her bed, with her BiPAP mask on, snuggling her little puppy friend. A peaceful Saturday morning. The PICC line - hopefully it will be gone soon, too! I'd muc...

The Olsons: December 2014
http://theolsonsite.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Back to the Blog. I bet you were wondering if I'd ever post to this blog again. I was, too. In fact, if I'm being totally honest, I wrote those first few lines a few weeks ago. Hmph. December needs one more week. So - where to begin? Right now, we still have the temporary tube hooked up. In January, her doctor will replace it with a button that lies flat on her stomach. Here she is tonight, eating while watching Wheel of Fortune. She has good taste in television sh...Not only ...

The Olsons: May 2014
http://theolsonsite.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 20, 2014. Perspective. It's an important thing. Last night, our darling daughter took part in her kindergarten graduation with her classmates - the class of 2026. It was a cute little program, with music and diplomas, family and friends, and lots of smiles and laughter. Natalie is just like any other kid.she loves music and noise. But she's unlike most kids at her graduation, because she has cerebral palsy and is bound to her wheelchair. She has adaptive physical education with her buddy, Ni...

The Olsons: August 2013
http://theolsonsite.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 27, 2013. It's the eve of Natalie's first day of kindergarten. I'm feeling nostalgic. I'm feeling excited for her. Most of all, I'm feeling grateful.grateful that we can share this milestone with her. It wasn't long ago that we got to meet her for the very first time and eventually hold her, all two pounds of her. At the worst of times, I prayed for one more minute.one more second with her. Then, we became thankful for one whole year with her. Each year has passed, and our little peanut h...
