Toasted Nut and Brown Sugar-Topped Sweet Potato Casserole. These are the sweet potatoes I made last year in Tanegashima. For the NASA crew’s makeshift Japanese Thanksgiving dinner. They were well received – I even had a few guys come up and ask me for the recipe, which didn’t actually exist until now. Ok, these are. Toasted Nut and Brown Sugar-Topped Sweet Potato Casserole. 3-4 large sweet potatoes (about 3 pounds total). 1/2 cup half and half. 1/2 cup brown sugar. 1 Roast potatoes whole, straight on the...

Green Soup With Cream. When I say green, I mean greeeen. I love this soup because it is the antithesis of cold, leafy salad but it serves the same wholesome, vitamin-packed purpose. Yes, it contains a couple of naughty dairy products, but the amounts are pretty minuscule and they make this soup thoroughly delicious without negating the awesome benefits of the kale, leeks, and spinach. Plus you can finish an entire bowl! Without feeling like a cow in a pasture, chewing and chewing and chewing. 2 In a sauc...

Paris By Mouth | Sweet Salty Tart

http://sweetsaltytart.com/2015/07/paris-by-mouth

Something I realized while I was being a tourist in France is that certain places in Paris are preetty touristy. I get the irony here, but as with most tourist spots in most large cities, things start to feel a bit…fake, like we visitors are being held at arm’s length. When you are a tourist like me, who has dreamed of traveling to Paris for years before you finally get to go, that incidental facade can be sort of frustrating. I think the best part about the tour, apart from Sara and her knowledge, was t...

Ham Fried Rice with Spinach. This recipe is part of a series of posts especially for college students and first-time cooks, made using only items from the College Pantry. And equipment from the College Kitchen. Fried rice works best with leftover, chilled rice because it will hold it’s shape and texture better than fresh, hot rice. Maybe you have some leftover brown rice from making burrito bowls. This is the perfect way to use it up. Ham Fried Rice with Spinach. A few teaspoons of neutral oil. 4 As soon...

Homemade Bread | Sweet Salty Tart

http://sweetsaltytart.com/2012/03/homemade-bread

I’ve mentioned it before, but I feel the need to reiterate: I don’t like baking. Baking requires measuring and like, recipes. Bread baking in particular can be very intimidating with it’s rising, punching, timing, and kneading. Most of the time, bread baking is lame. Bread should be like this:. Written by Jeff Hertzberg and Zoe Francois. You may have heard of their bread method referred to as “bucket bread” because, well, they recommend making the dough in a bucket. 3 cups lukewarm water. 2 Allow the dou...

What I love, What I do, (from the Kitchen): Mega Meal Day(s) New Dietary Challenges

http://whatilovewhatido.blogspot.com/2015/01/mega-meal-days-new-dietary-challenges.html

What I love, What I do, (from the Kitchen). Thursday, January 15, 2015. Mega Meal Day(s) New Dietary Challenges. Over the years we have had favorite meals as a family. Recently we have had new challenges that have caused us to rethink some of our recipes. We have a dairy allergy, gluten intolerance, and most recently a severe nut allergy that gave us quite a scare, as well as diabetes! As I had these mega cooking and days I had to alter some of the ingredients and my taste buds were put to the test.

Obviously the Ranch Dressing does not meet the dairy free requirement but it fits into all of the other dietary needs in the family. This is a copy cat of Mo's Ranch Dressing. 1/4 t garlic powder. Chuck...

Sweet Salty Tart

I shot this post at the very beginning of grill season, and I’m feeling pretty pleased with myself for publishing it while it’s still barely relevant. My blog is so now. This gas grill is old and was frankly on the fritz when I made this pizza. The heat was all uneven and sputtery, but the pizza still turned out tastier than anything you can make in your home oven. If you have your toppings ready and your dough isn’t sticking to everything, grilled pizza is hard to screw up. Coming along nicely there, eh?

It really takes this and many other Chinese dishes to another level, mine was brought from Ecuador. But if you don’t have it don’t worry your Stir Fry will still be delicious. Back to recipe, I l...
