The way the sun shines through it at sunset takes my breath away, and I always think to myself, I need to get Graham out there to take his picture next to it! Especially when your mom is too cheap to buy you a boy's bike, because she knows you're just going to outgrow it soon anyway and there's a perfectly good one right here. Tuesday, September 21, 2010. We almost missed our train (I keep wanting to call it a bus, but as it turns out, Jess my sister in law who is from the Chicago area, reminds me each time that it is in fact on tracks) but a 5 foot nothing maybe 90 pound Jess scooped Evie into her arms and sprinted up 2 flights of stairs JUST in time to get on the train! Special thanks to Miss Liz for letting us stay with her since we couldn't afford a room after our tea! And thanks to my mom and Jess for going with us!

I heard a story on NPR this morning about the severe famine in the Horn of Africa that has left 30% of children acutely malnourished, and that 4 in every 10,000 children are dying each day. Link. Then on the Mennonite Central Committee's website. There is an urgent request for funds for E. Africa, specifically Kenya and Ethiopia, because a severe drought the past two years has caused widespread famine affecting 11 million people. He'll be 2 tomorrow.

Monday, August 29, 2011. Hurricane Katrina - 6 years later. I heard this six years ago on NPR about a month after Hurricane Katrina. I think it is such a valuable essay on the true lessons we learned, and should keep learning. Did you hear her ask how many pay checks do you have left, how much do you owe on your car? Did your eyes open wide when you looked in the eye of the hurricane? Did you see us looking back? Were we close enough to touch? I heard this story today and it makes me sad -.

The first few pictures are of our highly intelligent little boy reading his chapter books. He also wanted to wear Daddy's boots, always cute. I have pictures of me wearing my Daddy's boots when I was Ian's age. We went to the Refuge Roundup at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. It was fun. I can't believe this guy will be 2 in less then a week.
