Sweet Writing Life

Some reflections on teaching, reading, writing, and life. Tuesday, August 18, 2015. So What Do You Do? So what do you do when it has been almost a month since you've written and the thought of putting pen to paper reminds you of the feeling you used to get when your mom used to force you to ride that tall, scary roller coaster when you were six? So what do you do when you know you should. Be writing, but instead you think of a million excuses for why you can't? Labels: Slice of Life. Sunday, July 26, 2015.

Sweet Writing Life: One Step Ahead {SOL 7-21-15}

http://www.sweetwritinglife.blogspot.com/2015/07/walk-it-off-sol-7-21-15.html

Some reflections on writing, reading, and life. Tuesday, July 21, 2015. One Step Ahead {SOL 7-21-15}. Teenagers argue. It's in their DNA, I think. They are fighters and they will fight with you until they wear you down and win. Their weapons of choice? When did they morph from the adorable, cuddly, mom-can-do-no-wrong children into.THIS? They are trying to bait me into another argument, just so they can assert their independence at the sake of my sanity. Yesterday, I took two walks. Labels: Slice of Life.

Sweet Writing Life: November 2014

http://www.sweetwritinglife.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Some reflections on writing, reading, and life. Saturday, November 8, 2014. The Light Goes On - #ReflectiveTeacher Blog Challenge Day 8. Today's Topic: Share a memorable moment in the classroom and how it reminded you about why you love what you do. That's how I've felt in my classroom for the past several years. I taught what I needed to teach. I covered the curriculum. I assessed what students were supposed to learn. Notice all the"I's" in that last paragraph? But that is changing. We don't give up.

Sweet Writing Life: February 2015

http://www.sweetwritinglife.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Some reflections on writing, reading, and life. Tuesday, February 24, 2015. Getting Ready to Slice {SOL 2-24-15}. My 4th graders love to write, and for that, I am grateful. As a teacher who loves writing, it makes my job a lot easier. One of my favorite things that I have done this year is teach them how to write Slice of Life entries in their writer's notebooks. I encouraged my students to write these slices, even if they weren't "assigned." Many of them did. Were my 4th graders up to it? Was I up to it?

Sweet Writing Life: March 2015

http://www.sweetwritinglife.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Some reflections on writing, reading, and life. Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Write {SOL Day 31: 3-31-15}. Life happening all around you, even in the most unlikely moments. Everything, not knowing yet what is important and what is not. Every detail, stuffing them deep into your memory until you can put them into words. New places and faces, looking for the story to tell. Life, take chances and try new things. Thank you for being a part of my Slice of Life journey! Labels: Slice of Life. Monday, March 30, 2015.

Gillis and her big mouth. Just another WordPress.com site. Questions That Arise at 2:33 am. What is that noise? How many ibuprofen can safely be taken for shoulder pain in a 24 hour span? What is the definition of sleep apnea? Why are sleep talkers so inarticulate? Why are hotel rooms always so hot? Seriously, what is that noise? How many other people have slept on this mattress to make it such a concave, taco shaped bed? How many times must I poke someone before they will roll over and stop snoring?
