Jefferson Pointe Farmer's Market's First Day. With drizzly rain on and off today, it was still great to see the Jefferson Pointe Farmers Market open, with shoppers and vendors undeterred. Eating Indiana: 9/27/09 - 10/4/09
http://eatingindiana.blogspot.com/2009_09_27_archive.html
I think the weekends are going to be interesting. While there is much more time to shop for and prepare local meals, there are also more opportunities to cheat. I started out the day with a good breakfast. Local eggs, local toast, and the best applewood smoked bacon. Ever. We headed to the Noblesville Farmers Market and hit the jackpot on local foods. See earlier post. I had a small lunch as we had early dinner plans. Salami, cheese, bread and Local Folks. Utopian Coffee always includes a small piece of ...

Eating Indiana: Conclusions?
http://eatingindiana.blogspot.com/2009/11/conclusions.html
I've thought about tracking our food expenses this month but I plan to continue buying some of the local food I bought in October. It would have been nice if I had tracked our food expenses in September, down to the last crumb, and compared that to October. What is Eating Indiana? Eating Indiana is an experiment in eating only products grown or raised in Indiana for the entire month of October. You can find some details here. And answers to a few questions here.

Eating Indiana: What?
http://eatingindiana.blogspot.com/2009/09/what.html
So I'm not going to talk about why or what the (purported) benefits of eating local are. Not right now anyway. Before I start this experiment on Thursday I need to lay some ground rules. I'm still working through these, to be honest. I suppose there are some things I'm forgetting. But for now, here's how I see it playing out:. All food that I eat in the month of October must have been raised or grown in Indiana. This raises a few questions right off the bat. I'll buy from a local baker or make my own....

I took the day off work on Friday and went to Goose the Market for lunch and to get a few things for Saturday. The sandwiches there are awesome. In fact, Bon Appetit magazine recognized Goose as number one in their top 10 spots serving the countries best sandwiches. For dinner I roasted an acorn squash and made a salad with the last of the ham and bacon I had. What I ate Friday:. Sandwich at Goose the Market. Here are some additional pictures from dinner preparations tonight. What I ate today:. Tonight f...

What I ate today:. Fried egg sandwich (yet again). Leftover warm cabbage salad. I read today on the Going Local. Website that a new local market is opening in Carmel soon. Harvest Fresh Market. Opens on October 31st and will feature Indiana products. I look forward to checking them out. From their website:. Tonight I decided to go all veg for dinner. I still don't do a very good job of getting enough vegetables in my diet on a daily basis. I thought I'd over compensate for that tonight. I cub...In Carmel...

We've come to the end of October and the end of the Eating Indiana experiment. Saturday we went to the last Noblesville farmers market of the year. It was really windy and chilly so we made it a quick trip. We got a gallon of cider, some apples, kale, mustard greens, another jar of Local Folks mustard, some shitake mushrooms, and more lamb steaks. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). What is Eating Indiana? Eating Indiana: Day Twenty-Nine
http://eatingindiana.blogspot.com/2009/10/day-twenty-nine.html
We served them with a salad of local greens, cherry tomatoes from our garden, a little bit of applewood smoked bacon, goat cheese, and a vinaigrette made from Local Folks mustard. It was a really nice dinner. Here are some additional pictures from dinner preparations tonight. Bacon I buy it unsliced because it's cheaper. The pizza dough has finished rising. Two calzones out of the oven. We have enough for lunch for both of us tomorrow. What I ate today:. What is Eating Indiana?
