SWPAA collects dues from its members and sponsors fund-raising activities. The principal fund-raiser is the annual SWPAA Dinner Dance which also provides a fellowship assemblage for current SWP members and alumni. In the nineteen eighties and nineties shelter directors who were of special assistance were Norman Trosten, Crosby Inman, Nevelle Spence-Reid, Norma George, Beryl Hudson, and Mavis Delgado. With the transition from HRA to DHS Julia Moten and Anne Lee provided constructive administrative oversight and Marsha Stevens a presence of encouragement. SWP has celebrated its anniversary every year since 1974. Two other traditional annual events are the Christmas Party, and the summer trip to Bear Mountain.
