Back in the saddle, and other musings. I’ve pretty much settled into a routine now. wake up slowly around 6 (i know, right? I’ve heard the weather there is worse than here right now, so hopefully it won’t interrupt our trip . . . i’m going with a couple collaborators to visit a district health office and a few health centers in lombok and bali. i’ll be SO CLOSE to komodo island! But i think i’ll have to wait until summer to see some dragons . . . the weather is too bad right now. :(. January 22, 2014.

8 kinds of smells. 1 fresh, clean rain. i left seattle mid-monday, and i left the sweet sweet smell of drizzle along with it. it definitely rains in jakarta, but it mixes with exhaust fumes and fried street food to give a *different* smell. but that comes later in the list. I’m embarrassed. i’m guessing i won’t finish it this trip. didn’t journal at all either yet! What’s happening to my lazy brain? There’s still a lot of trip left for both i guess . . . and for work of course. 8 lemongrass sandwich....

This will be a picture-heavy post. work is going slow and steady, i’m learning lots of bahasa indonesian, and i’ve been on several food adventures this past week! Most of them involve way too much fried food. ;). I’ve gotten to hang out with a couple people from my hotel, and i met a couple at my coffee shop that brought me to their church last sunday. they’re awesome, and i’m gonna go grab some wine with the wife this afternoon. Our administration, support staff, and the new teachers are all simply amazing. We've gotten to know some incredible people already and are looking forward to building friendships with them. Adventures in the Orient. Monday, June 6, 2011. Kayla and I have officially moved out of our apartment and our classrooms. Many thanks to our friends and familia who helped us move. It's just different, and I'm not used to it right now, but I'm extremely thankful for a place to live, especially one that's rent-free and has some home-cooking! So we're at the 2 month mark. Adventures in the Orient. Sunday, August 14, 2011. China, Day 4. Well, today has been a pretty full day. We got up and walked to the fellowship, which took just under 30 minutes. We were pleasantly surprised at how many people were there! We know there will be lots of opportunities and relationships to be had there. November 17, 2014. What a day looks like. Turns out, the days here look quite different every time i come. i change each time i come, and jakarta changes much more than i had expected for a city that stays in the sweet spot of average temp in the 80s year round. Me: sunny. comfortable. still hot. rainy season sadly delayed my trip to komodo island, which is still at the top of my list. but this way hopefully graeme can go with me at some point so we can take a selfie with a dragon!
